I have a good mate that might have some ideas around this - He is a real wizard on hard drive setups, data recovery and info like that.
I do not have an Octagon (Yet) but I might order one soon. If I was able to get a Hard Drive with Octagon recordings already on it, it would really help.
The files are definitely TS format as I have seen it stated in specs for the Octagon on the internet.
In regards to when the Hard drive is installed into the octagon, what process is followed e.g. has it been formatted before it goes in, does the Octagon format the HDD once it see's it etc?

btw just so people are aware.. Viewing recordings from disk currently only supports play, pause and 2xFF - there is no rewind or faster FF scanning.
This is as of 20/08 firmware. Have not yet tried the new 06/09 firmware as yet.

Wondering if anyone has some suggestions. I have one of these boxes now up and running - I am in an apartment block and get poxtel thru a plug in the wall which i believe is connected to a dish on the roof.
The settings are

symbol rate 27800
FEC 3/4
RF Channel number 55

When I do a search I only receive 6 HD channels like ESPN HD (which are all scrambled) on 12598/27800/H even though it is set to look for all 21 transponders.
I've plugged the pox box back in and all ok, so am stumped. I have a blue card if that means anything..
