I set it to wide band 9750-10750 and it has found most channels, but not a whole bunch like History, Nat Geo or the eastern states fta or any radio channels.

I have a good mate that might have some ideas around this - He is a real wizard on hard drive setups, data recovery and info like that.

Spoke to Steve today and he says he can only find out what is going if he gets his hands on a hard drive out of an Octagon so as to test and evaluate what format the hard drive and files are.

I do not have an Octagon (Yet) but I might order one soon. If I was able to get a Hard Drive with Octagon recordings already on it, it would really help.

I am holding off ordering one of these at the moment ....I am forking out for a new Quad Core computer (found a bargain on the weekend) which will also keep me busy for the next week or two.

It seems like extracting the recordings off the Octagon 918 HDD is going to be a problem. I hope one of the Guru's from this forum rises to the challenge with a solution. Good Luck Jim...

Nah enjoy the 918 dude.. By the time the 1018 comes out and then surfaces in oz will be while I reckon.

All just to record one while watching another....

Usually cheaper to buy two single tuner boxes ...

The lnb is more likely to be a 9750/10600 universal type, try scanning the channels with that setting.

I was wondering how many of the current Octagon SF918 owners apart from z80 have their units running 'cardless'?? I can see there are plenty of posts in this thread referring to what cards work etc, so a little feed back on this would be helpful. Also is the cardless set up only really achievable for the advanced user or can a newbie such as myself by using the valuable info already supplied in this thread, allow me to be watching HD channels by the end of next week.... ????

A few do, mine runs cardless, but i have a valid sub card nearby...

If you can't make it work with this,relatively simple box, then there is no hope for you whatsoever.

You need access to a foxtel sub with the HD channels enabled,(paid for).
You will not get HD channels any other way....$$$$$
But you can get a lot of other stuff...as well

I just want to say my legit bluey works great with the 918 and picks up the e.states fta too.

Having a little trouble with al jazeera but have been reading the hamguy2 posts so learning from that

Just rename it and move it to your liking.

Believe you need to go to Memory Status and backup.

Install the new firmware

then go back to Memory Status and restore.

I scan that TP and receive 9 channels. None are unknown.
When I try to change a rubbish one like ACC, I see AJZ for about 3 seconds then it reverts back to ACC.

I save the AJZ PID's but it simply reverts. Argggh!
