Ive posted some internals shots of the 918 in
I thought I might start this thread ( and maybe make it a sticky if there is enough info in it ) as when I started doing a search on info on them information was a bit all over the place.
Ok , so far ( and please DO correct me if I post anything incorrect because I dont own one ) there are 3 models :
SF318 with has 2 card slots
SF518 same as above but with 2 x CI slots
SF918 that is HD and has HDMI
I believe these models also have an ethernet port and could be used for card sharing the same way a Dreambox can ? What other handy features do they have ?
For anyone looking for one locally , site sponsor have all 3 models listed on their site at what seems a pretty good price.
Feel free to add any information that might help others.
Thanks

Oh my goodness gracious me.....it took 20 minutes to put latest firmware on and then this....
@sanity...the card slots should answer some of your questions...
Will the 918 become the 'new Humax'?

Oh my goodness....guess what this is doing....
Hint...notebook SATA drive plugged to main board
yes...its recording to a notebook hard drive in 1080i...
what is NOT required to achieve this?
No stupid network or linux shares, no crazy file systems....just the remote control and bang....off she goes....
This is seriously good shit folks......
I notice the 318/518 have a relatively small CPU , does the 918 have a bigger one ?
Can you share from a 918 to other boxes on a LAN with relatively no problems ? I know using a Dreambox you are limited to the amount of boxes you can share to before it breaks up , is this particular unit more powerfull and if so , how ?
1ghz cpu.
400 megs of ram.
1 licenced irdeto slot
2 CI slots
usb,esata etc
It does NOT serve, it is a client only.
It also has a serial port that is avalibale for HSIC, GBOX...and more in menus.
to record...just press the button on the remote..regardless of whats on the screen.
to stop recording just press stop.
It is so damned easy....
To playback...menu,file browser and play.
Here is an example of the amount of disk space for about 13 minutes.
I estimate about 5 gigabytes an hour.
But cause it's external...you can have any size you want...
Thats a grunty box. Its a pity it cant serve , is this something that is just related to the SF918 or do the others ( 318,918 ) only work as a client as well ?
From other threads I was given the impression that the esata wasn't yet supported in the firmware. Obviously not correct. I was looking at one of these through Southern Sats the other night and freight was 25 pound. I thought that's reasonable. I asked how long does it take to get here and there was a reply of opps that was meant to be 75 pound, thanksf or that

Does cccam work with the 918?
Also to view the HD channels I presume you need an orange card?
Hi,
Going thru' the specs of 918 and found it has 32bit ARM920 CPU. So cccam.armeb should work???!!! Is the firmware a flavour of linux.....busybox ?
Whats going on, I dont see any cards in the card slots yet I see Nat Geo HD.
How???
Are these HD channels not encrypted?
Can someone help with the correct upgrade file for the Octagon SF918.
Have found many files but not sure which is right one, also many are in German which doesnt help.
The one that Z80 used would be great.
Eat your hearts out kiddies...cause it records brilliantly in HD to a disk drive.
Yes...the empty card slots are good for extra ventilation...hahahah.
I just can not stop watching nat geo Hd and BBC HD.
Of course before that was the footy....
I have connected a TERRABYTE hard drive and....it's fine...
