    Default getskills laptop thread continued

    Just received this E-Mail .

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a quick note to let you know that the supporting evidence required to apply for your Australian Skills Voucher has been received and we have now lodged your Australian Workskills Voucher application with the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) for you.

You can expect to receive the voucher via post within the next 14 days.

When you have received your Voucher from DEST, please post it back to the Reply Paid address below as soon as you receive it (to avoid delay!).

Once we receive the Australian Skills Voucher, we will be able to progress you towards starting the program!

FYI - Most Business - Cert II vouchers are applied for under ‘mixed-mode’ delivery to give you flexibility with your learning delivery. You can then opt to do the course via distance-mode, mixed-mode or face-to-face once you have received your voucher.

For those applicants that cannot attend a Get Skills Training Centre (due to location, course hours, etc), you can do the entire course via Distance-Mode.

HR Company is the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that has partnered with Get Skills to deliver your training. You will see the RTO information at the bottom of your voucher, however, all course enquiries prior to getting started can be directed to Get Skills on 1300 GETSKILLS or 1300 438 754.

Please note that the voucher MUST be redeemed within 21 days of the Commencement Date shown near the bottom.

We appreciate that you are keen to get started, however, we cannot send you your laptop or commence you into your course until all original coppies of the required documents have been received by Get Skills.

We thank you for your interest in this training program and look forward to your participation!

    Best regards,

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Thanks Sanity

Speaking of the free Lappys, did anyone have any problems getting rid of Vista and installing XP? Any tips or tricks? And there was a few links to the drivers too.
Any help appreciated, I would like to try to do this as painless as possible lol

    Cheers

When my new lappy arrived after a very long wait it seemed, the first thing I did after booting up was shut it down after 30mins and install 2Gb of memory.
This helped Vista work a hell of alot better, but after 2 days of trying to load most of my radio related software and finding no driver support in Vista it was time to return to good old XP.

The best advice I can give is before you do anything like removing Vista go through all onboard system and check what Drivers are currently being used.

When downloading drivers from the Acer web site you will find multiple drivers listed for the same machine e.g. Wireless , Lan, Display & Sound etc so you need to know what you have.

Once the job is done you will have a very stable and quick lappy

Thanks so much to Sanity for sharing this great info with us all

How I installed XP, I bought a USB floppy drive ($25 odd), made up a floppy disk with the sata drive drivers that are on Acer's site with all the other drivers, and installed XP this way. Went quite easy. Why it must be done either this way or fandtm666 way, is because XP does not recognise the sata drives in laptops.

I still have my 'checksheet' available if anybody wants it. Their marking abilities are questionable, but I 'passed' with it, and I'm happy to send it to anybody who wants it, just PM me and incluse and email address I can 'attatch' it to.

    Cheers.

PS, Helen, thanks for the dvd !!

Could someone please supply a link to where the sign-up page is/was?
I know they've run out of laptops at the moment, and I did originally sign up, but lost the paperwork.
    Might try again.
Also, could someone please post a sample question and an answer, just to get an idea of how easy/hard it actually is?
    Thanks.
