    Default No system sound but

All my sounds in the windows system sound scheme have stopped (including messenger and other apps listed in the sound scheme tab) and no sound when playing clips from You Tube or adobe media
All drivers are working, speakers are working, and every other apps (mp3) plays their sound properly. I checked sound and audio devices in control panel and in the sounds tab the scheme is there and so are the sounds but the play button isn't highlighted so can't play
Have downloaded drivers for Gigabyte MB still no luck (realtek ac97)
Did do a test and speaker play
Went into bios and turned off ac97 no sound went to bios again turned on ac97 sound but no system sound
Over the last few months I have had some strange probes and have received some great help as I didn't want you to think I was just a bot have been trying for 2 weeks but this has got me pulling my hair out

    have you tried
    1: removing the current drivers
    2: upgrading the bios
    3: reinstalling latest drivers
4: plugging in a different sound card and see if it works

if you need a spare sound card i have one here u can have nothing special but works so you can test

get codec tweak tool to restore your system sounds registry settings and see if that fixes it. ( run the app and check fix broken sounds, if it is grey and says no problems detected then this isn't the area of your problem )

Do you have Auto Updates activated?, it sounds like you may have had an audio update from Bill and your Mobo doesn't like it.
I thing FandTM666 hit it on the head, I think you'll need a BIOS update.

Your MS audio compression is messed up....follow these steps:
    Click on Add new hardware.
Yes I have already connected the hardware
    Add a new hardware device
    Install manually from a list
    Sound video game controllers
    Have disk
    Browse
    Windows\system32\mmdriver.inf
    OK
In the list of codecs reinstall Microsoft Audio Compression Manager.

I had this kind of rot going on in my HTPC after it's last format which included an upgraded graphics card. Disabling HDMI audio devices fixed the problem instantly as it was defaulting audio to that and I'm using analogue outputs at this time.
