Is the processor working at 100 % while using WMP???? I had that and i just installed the latest WMP 10 or something (it was about a year ago) on his machine and it was happy again?(well as happy as you can be using WMP LOL)
A friend has a WMP problem? I know I have been telling people to use VLC. But my mate insists on using WMP. I have installed Klite codec Pack and checked with G Spot that the correct codecs are installed (which they are), but when movie plays its a bit jumpy and the sound is very quiet. VLC Media Player is jumpy too. I also tried Power DVD which worked fine, but its not what he is after. Any ideas what else i could try.
Thanks
Also it has XP and using WMP 11

When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
What sort of movies? DVDs, avi's or mkv's?
There are codecs/direct show filters that are better than others.
I reckon CCCP is a better pack, it isn't bloated and the FAQ's etc explain a lot.
If he wants to try it uninstall K-Lite and install CCCP
VLC is good for playing most anything, it doesn't use any codecs, it does it all itself, but quality wise I find a player and good codec/filter better.
edit: probably should have qualified that CCCP probably has similar directshow filters as Klite, but the FAQ/WiKi of the site explains in detail what is good and what is buggy, whilst klite appears to be just a collection of the latest builds of the filters etc.

Re the quiet sound.... what are you playing the movie on... ie laptop, PC with speakers or HTPC and external receiver? Often AC3 will sound quieter than a movie with stereo mp3 audio tracks.
WMP has an audio graphic equaliser where you can boost all the frequencies, that may help.
Ssrattus, sorry mate, it is a lappy (dell) and trying to play original DVD's

I run VLC and GOM player. Between the two of them they'll play almost anything.
WMP is like most Micro$haft products - junk.
Since you tried PowerDVD and it worked fine, try configuring the system to use the PowerDVD decoder with WMP. You may need to unregister or reduce the file merit of the existing decoders so that the decoder you want is selected. Use graphedit to see what the operating system selects as decoders and filters. There are the tools to do this in Klite most likely.
Or he could try the NVidia Pure Video Decoder, it is usually quite good. It also works on ATI video cards, just no HW acceleration available then. It's a 20mb download because it comes with a crappy nvidia media centre app.
