Welcome to the Austech forums, arstormchaser.
You will find other "comms types" frequenting the Communications Devices section of the forums.
But I'm curious about your username.....does it mean that you are one of those crazy storm chasing enthusiasts I have heard so much about? (And I see that AR is the abbreviation for Arkansas, which you have listed as your location).

Totally forgot about this post. I dont post much on forums, But to answer your question Tristen I do storm chasing here in Arkansas. Been doing it for about 6 years now and I enjoy every bit of it! Had a few close calls and got a few good videos of tornadoes and many lightning pics.
Hello everyone!
Been here for a while and have found the forum very useful and full of a wealth of knowledge! Much appreciated! Some of the things I am interested in and hobby around with are Motorola, EF Johnson, and Kenwood radios.
Figure I should make a post and get more active in the forum.
I do have a maxon radio question not to sure where to post that but im sure ill be directed in the right spot.
Cheers!
I'll merge these two threads, arstormchaser as you had made an introduction post previously.
The 'Communication Devices' section is the spot for all comms-related questions.

Hi don here
I have always wondered about "stormchasers " where is the thrill ? is it the tech/ setup ?the mad driving? the location guessing ? the danger of being in a storm ? having your car smashed up ? or changing into clean underwear? Do tell ?
arstormchaser (30-12-19)
Its awesome, i use a Verizon & AT&T hotspots for internet and laptop for weather radar as well as a few phones with radar and chat services. Its always a guessing game. have to watch Storm prediction center data and several other websites such as Pivotal weather and others for model data.
The thrill is always being able to get a storm and see a tornado and lightning haha.
it can be very dangerous and has been a few close calls. i have had hail damage and a few broken windshields. Of course several "clean" pairs of underwear lol
so am I to assume the """"""""""""Thrill is getting close or into it """"""""""""""""""""" how many pairs of underwear is it necessary to carry on the approach . How much protection have you build into the vehicle and do you wear a condom , some tell me when the whirly-gig hits you get such a thrill that you sometimes ejaculate on the spot Sorry to quiz you but been fascinated by it , The stormchasing not the other
No worries lol and i haven't had to change underwear yet. haha i do carry a few days worth of clothes and water plus food. (just my style)
I haven't done much to my vehicle at all. Replaced windshields and sunroofs a few times. I mainly chase to get data and to provide a ground truth to what the NWS is seeing. I chat with them on NWS Chat and provide updates and again ground truth weather it be hail or tornado or frequent cloud to ground lightning.
Sorry... I obviously missed your introduction post arstormchaser... almost 3 years ago!

thats interesting I found I had a fascination for lightening and static discharges do you get to measure volts by any chance and how is it done ? what other fields does this lead into ??? and do you try to protect the electronics in any way or are they just expendable ?
Guys, if you wish to discuss topics, please start a separate thread in the appropriate section.
