Default WTB antenna to suit vhf frequency 140 to 150mhz

Looking for a antenna between 4 to 6db gain for vhf 140 to 150mnz range, so a 2merer band antenna or a Vhf marine antenna would be great, needs to be ground plane independent, will be using it to receive signals only, due to strict building code in my housing estate I'll be mounting in in the roof space. I'm located in the cranbourne area.

The problem you face is antenna length/height and radiation angle, for antennas of that gain at those frequencies.

(eg: typically 5 to 9 metres in length)

I would recommend a ground independent end-fed half wave mobile antenna such as this. (I use them for 2 metres... great performer)

It doesn't have quite the gain you're asking for, but it has good radiation angle acceptance and a length that's manageable in most ceilings.

Note... any antenna installed in a ceiling space will not operate well (if at all) if there is a metal roof, or metallic foil insulation under tiles, etc.

Totally agree with you, mobile antenna will be the best option. Thanks for the link.

Some years ago I had a UHF CB antenna that appeared to be mounted in a PVC pipe, even the end cap looked like one of those vent tops you see.
The only 'giveaway' was the metal section where it attached to a mast and the cable connected but I am sure with some thought that could have been disguised to look like a part of the plumbing.
I think the ARRL had a small book out one time on how to disguise antennas for those in apartment blocks where the 'Body Corporate' generally objected to any sort of antennas.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Have you looked at making a loop antenna ?
