Default SIM recommendation for GSM Dialler

We're monitored by Chubb and I decided to purchase a GSM dialler which arrived today. Popped the mobile SIM in to test and working just fine (it's from Vodafone).

We due to be connected to the NBN in the next few weeks so just planning ahead and thought I would see what 3G SIM cards you would recommend. I'm yet to log into the panel to see what number the dialer uses for Chubb (maybe one of you know!) but suspect that may be important as some plans don't include 1300 numbers, etc.

So far, the Aldi and Amaysim pre-paid options look good (with 365 day expiry available) but open to hearing your thoughts.

    Stop what you are doing.

You should be using IP Monitoring (which Chubb and any number of other graded monitoring centres can support). This includes the 3G SIM data service within the monitoring fee and is FAR more reliable than what you are attempting to string together. I carry no brief for Chubb but what you are doing would waive them of just about any responsibility for something going wrong.

Hmm... already purchased unfortunately. If our Internet goes down I'm presuming the IP monitoring switches to the dialler. Understand that Chubb won't be responsible if the dialler fails but what's the difference in reliability with what we are using right now (ie. standard dialler via land line)

If going down this path a GSM dialler is only a very short term solution. Vodafone will be switching off their 2G service at the end of September this year. Optus (therefore Amaysim) will switch off in April and Telstra already shut down theirs last year (so Aldi won't work period).

Thanks for the info but It's 3G not 2G I was looking at.

No worries. 'GSM' is 2G only, but if you got a 3G model then any carrier will, in general, work. Just be aware of the different frequencies are used, and is generally more of an issue if you plan on using Telstra (or any of their resellers) as they use 850Mhz.
