    Default Austech Outage May 2

Our host, Wiredtree.com has been bought by major US host Liquid Web. On April 9 at 2:00am ET AM EST, we will be migrated to Liquid Web's servers. They estimate down time at about 1 hour.

Now to work out what time that will be here ......

It wont make any difference to us, we actually get a slight server upgrade and are still on fully managed hosting (ie, it breaks, they fix it). Liquid Web have a very good reputation as a host, particularly with customer service.

    Edit Update :

The final sync of your WiredTree content to your upgraded server is scheduled for April 9th at 2am (ET). We will copy the entire file system from the source server so that all content is up to date. Your IP addresses will be moved to the new server. You will not need to change any DNS records.

You should expect approximately 1hour and 45min. of downtime during this process, though this can take longer depending on the amount and type of content being moved.

Daylight saving time takes our clocks back one hour so we should be 14 hours ahead so therefore April 9 at 16:00 East coast Aust time.

The only detail not known is does the area where the server is located go into DST or not as its not consistent throughout the USA.
From what I have read, some areas within a State change while others dont so I would go from as early as 1500 hrs to as late as 1700 hrs.

Wonder what little 'surprises' we'll experience with the transition.

Hopefully none, but I'll be surprised if we get through totally unscathed.

I am wondering if I shouldnt be taking a look around at other current offers, obviously over time offers change which can be cheaper.....as long as it does not affect performance.
I might see what all other quality providers are offering, we are a Cpanel customer on a VPS so its not hard at all to move anywhere (they all move you free of charge).

US daylight saving time started a couple of weeks ago (12 march 2017) & US first day of spring was 20th March 2017

I notice it when the US TV shows change the time they are regularly on ..... today being the first day of Non daylight saving time in Australia will change the time US TV shows are on too ....... US Eastern 6.00 am is now 8.00 pm EST AUS

but you have a point if as you say some places change at different times in the US ?

I gather there are 4 time zones in the USA, East, Central, Mountain time and West coast. I may have misunderstood but
I am sure I was told one 'County' may go DST but others in the same State may not.

Most of the states go DST. Arizona is a state that does not change to DST ever. Canada is all DST with a weird 1/2 hour shift on the far east coast. Canada was always a bit different LOL.

The only thing I can ad to the change is be sure everything is backed up just in case something happens during the transfer of ownership or server hardware.

I hope this isnt a precursor to the 'Outage' but yesterday and today when I opened the site, it 'pulsed' !!
The home page appears then about 2 seconds later it reloads and keeps doing it until I close the page and retry again.

That sounds like a problem with your browser. Or take the coffee cup off your keyboard

I just looked at the downtime, 28 minutes. Thats as good as it gets for a move because there was no DNS/IP Change required, it all got moved.

I will be keeping an eye on server load to see if there is any difference to how Liquid Web do things on a VPS. We have more RAM (and SSD disc space) than we did, but I dont know exactly how they share CPU resources. And of course we are in a different physical part of the US, I will have to ask them where we are

i forgot about the downtime for a second, and was going to check on downfor all.
