I am not a fan of Facebook. But many people are.
I did register an Austech Facebook page about 4 years ago which has sat dormant, but I will be making it an active page in the near future and there will be a few new Facebook post features on Austech.

I share your opinion. I did give in about a year ago and get a page at the urging of a friend who convinced me it would be a good way to keep up with the lives of some friends and acquaintances I do not see near as much as I should. For this purpose it has been good. I check it about once a week, and find there is so much garbage that I'd compare it to going through an email inbox full of spam. There is, however, the odd gem in their too.

yes this sadly is probably a place i spent more time on then most, its a P#### of a invention, but ppl swarm to it, its becoz its easy, they just "like" shit or post photos
not much intelligent stuff on there but it is the future, sadly
i run a buy swap sell site i inherited with 20,000 morons, but it keeps me occupied
worse thing it really lacks admin controls, you've either got to moderate ever post or let them do whatever, but im in for it

I am a member of faceache only to keep up with kidz and old friends. I also only log in rarely, but it can be a good backup if Austech falls over, we can, alt least, hop on there to find out what happened.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
I'll have to create a fake account, I dont want everyone stalking me

I appreciate it is probably the way most things are going.
But wonder what the advantages are?
Most of what i've seen of FB is advertising, or did i just answer my own question?
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

One annoyance with FB is those damned 'Friend' requests or suggestions seeming generated by FB, that you MAY know 'this person'.
Some it seems are known to someone you know but not always to you directly.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

annnnnnd facebook is turning into wingebook...... don't like something, let all the bazillion facebookers know about it and get their opinions added to your winge too
me personally won't be attaching Austech to my groups, so I won't be getting up to date feeds on everything you lot waffle on about
or increasing my 12 friends.............. that I actually talk too

hehehehe - don't get me wrong, we use facebook to advertise a business and like the way it allows people to endorse us
I also like the "Buy and Sell groups" aspect of facebook. But this forum is perfect for me as I pick and choose what interests me to read and I don't need to scroll through what I don't find interesting
facebook has very little control and is being used more and more for people who feel that everyone needs to know everything that offends them - and that is just....... offending

Really cool to have a Facebook page with the latest news. Well, if it's not updated just once a month

forums are closing because of it with lots of into gone forever. What I dont' like about FB is you can't go back and search for posts like on a forum.
......Leroy
yeh, that's what I noticed as well, the missus will tell me about something she saw on FB, but then can't find it to show me. Every now & then she gets lucky & remembers whose page it was posted on.lol
I have been copying important info from forums to my PC so I don't lose it if they close due to lack of use.
Cheers, Tiny
"You can lead a person to knowledge, but you can't make them think? If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
The information is out there; you just have to let it in."
As I have mentioned, we arent going anywhere. At the absolutely worse case scenario (I am dying of cancer, the Greens are in government with Bill Shorten as deputy PM and no one uses the forum) it could go in to a (still searchable) closed state on shared hosting for a handful of change.
Did I mention we are not closing ?
You guys also have something else going in your favour.....an admin who likes history, antiques and the preservation of things And that I dont know of any Australian forums that have been around as long as us.
Facebook will be used with the aim of getting new members from it. No one has to use it, no one has to go there. If you dont like Facebook, I recommend you dont. But some do, and if they find one of our threads interesting, that may help in promoting it.

Over the years, I have been (and continue to be) a member of many forums and enjoy the interaction and exchange of knowledge, but I shall not take part in any Facebook page.
No doubt Facebook, in common with many similar internet sites, serves an useful purpose for some, but not for me and most of my acquaintances.
well that's it, its not for everyone of course
i thought it was great to join 10 yrs ago, found old friends, stalked old girlfriends, even found love, sometimes, (philipino chat lines)
but then you found the 1000 friends you added never talk & you star over
deffo recommend a fakish account for those of you that "dont exist" ?
theres a hell abuse site i was on for 2 days, then i got barred, how the hell can you get banned from a abuse site? i got over it, would you believe they banned me for reporting a post, its a no dobbing rule, but rules say no discrimination, thats fb all over
