    Phoenix Programmer
    source: unknown

This Phoneix programmer is based on the version previous released by Odin.

Joos Design have added a better power supply and made some other small changes.

We presume a Phoenix programmer will not be your first build, so a detailed instruction is not supplied.

The PCB drawing shuld be downscaled to about 12 % of the original,

make a test printout and verify you have the right distance for the IC legs.

Nice find. I wish i had of gotten into this hobby years ago where the only way to get a pheonix programmer etc was to build it yourself.

    Interesting. Here's the schematic.

Those who have one should consider linking pins 5, 9, 11 and 13 of the 74HC04 to ground, otherwise the crystal oscillator may occasionally stop working or go berzerk.

Software needs to be configured for 3.58MHz crystal. You can change to 6.0MHz if you want by simply desoldering and replacing the crystal.

Software will be blind to card presence with this interface. You should be able to add card detection simply by adding two wires:
    • from MAX232 pin 11 to the red LED's anode (adjacent to card socket)
    • from MAX232 pin 14 to DB9 pin 1

This will give RS232 Carrier Detect = -12V when the card is inserted, which is the convention used by a lot of software. (The Jaycar Phoenix MK II's inverter modification was to make it follow this convention.)

I would need to be really bored, in fact Leonard Cohen suicidal to attempt that circuit.

The jaycar kit wins every time...
