    Default Fkn Black Ants!

I have a problem with litte black ants invading my kitchen benchtop.

I tried an ant-rid bait and the little buggers tucked into that and the bait was empty the next morning.
For the next 3 days I only saw the occasional scout and then all of a sudden they were back again.
So out with the baits once more - only this time the little buggers won't even touch them, they just walk around them, I even tried baits with a different active ingredient but still no go.

This has been going on for 3 or 4 weeks now and is starting to piss me off.

Does anyone know of a way to get rid of these little black bastards without poisoning myself in the process?

I have only ever had success with those little bottles of antrid liquid. The idea is for them to take a minute amount back to the nest...the other baits seem useless.

I have been invaded in the past by the little bastards, but that has always got rid of them.

Yeah I've used that stuff before and it worked but I can't seem to find it anywhere now.

I've only ever bought it in Woollies...I'll be there later today so I'll see if it's still there.

    Hortico Ant and Roach Dust

or go all out and use this

ZEUS TERMITICIDE AND INSECTICIDE 1L (100g/L Bifenthrin)

Comes with a 10 Year life span for killing Ants.
I had Ants in an area outside at my house, in 30 years of trying everything, nothing moved them on.
This stuff eradicated them in 1 application, that was 2 years ago, they have not been back.

(Was suggested to me by another Austech member, very thankful for his suggestion)

I don't fancy spraying that stuff around the kitchen.
It's a tad expensive anyway, if I was going to spend that much I'd call in a pest controller.

I'll keep it in mind though, never know when I might need it.

    Boric Acid,

Ask Allover nicely and he may get some for you. 2Kg minimum weight.

Boric Acid is the active ingredient in Liquid Ant Rid IIRC.

The bottle says Honey & Borax.
Coles sells Borax, I might make some baits myself - these buggers seem to be grease eaters and wont go for the sweet stuff.

Of course, you can always remove the reason they coming into your kitchen in the first place
    Then seal any entry points

I found weather plays a big part in these tiny black ants running into your house in my area.

Just did my own pest control around Home,
"Fortune 500" insecticide & cocky paste.- Kills near on contact - Haven't seen a ant near the house again yet.
    Around $80 all up.
    1l bottle still near full.
Mates rates pest control was gonna be $170

Exactly, the stuff i suggested is what Pest Control use anyway
So doing it yourself is a very big saving.
Many different brands, but have the same active ingredient.

Probably a bit OTT for indoor use, but if they are giving the shits, then dont muck around

Clever man, do you think I'm that stupid as not to do that in the first place?
You can only scrub a kitchen sink so many times.

I did find and seal an entry point that was between the benchtop and kitchen sink but they've now decided to enter from the cupboard underneath the kitchen sink but I'll be buggered if I can find the trail to the entry point - I can't see anything underneath or outside the house either.

I must admit, the last time a sprayed that commercial product around my house in an unbroken line.
I locked some of the small black ants in my house.
Which needed killing with normal surface spray to get rid of.

I have no idea what you've done White Ox.
    No need to take offence

Had a problem with them here but tried 'Talon' gel from Selleys and they're gone in a day or so.
Active ingredient is thiamethoxam and the principle is it wipes out the nest including the queen

Had some success in the past with Borax powder from the laundry section at the supermarket mixed with icing sugar too but the gel seems much better.

I've tried that and also Combat Ant-Rid baits, the ants just walk around them.
Apparently I have grease eaters - most ant baits/poisons are made for sweet eaters, that explains why they wont touch the bait/poison I've been using.

Looks like I'll be mixing some Borax and Peanut Butter.
