I read that at Whirlpool. Does anyone know many people over there ? Happy to add some extra forums or sub forums if there was any interest, or if anyone wants to pass on the offer.

Ditto - there were good people there once, often wonder if the lack of effective moderation sent them away......

Agreed, there were a lot of very skilled/knowledgeable people there in the past.

Several members left due to frustrations from a lack of effective moderation.... usually left to just one person to manage.

A number of members brought their expertise to Austech, yourself included.

I doubt the resident 'troll' would last very long at Austech, which has a great admin/moderation team.

Yeah, I have read a bit about some of the trolls

I thought they might have been playing a bit of a free advertising game on Whirlpool......the forum goes down and the thread at Whirlpool gets bumped as people ask what happened. Then it comes back on. That has been going on for 6 months or so.

But as I mentioned, any and all are welcome here (under our rules of course)

    Another forum bites the dust....

Well I haven't posted on Austech in years, sad that AVForum/DTVForum is looking to close, guess Austech might have to become my primary forum as Whirlpool is over moderated and posts are often lost quickly due to it being a very busy forum.

    LOL- all of the above.

Actually I'm a bit confused as to whether they're shutting down or not.

It's a hell of a plug for the site either way

I don't understand why people like whirlpool as you cannot do anything except post and that it. The only forum that will last is the AVS Forum in the US as that is very busy

Perhaps that's what many people wanted... straight info without clutter from pics being posted and re quoted etc. Works for me, I actually have sigs and avatars turned off here to get more info on one page.

The issue with WP for me is that it's an overmodded dead parrott's society.

Happily, Austech is nothing like that.

Yeah, the ABC Technicians that used to post for the first couple of years were great, the background to the Broadcast of DD 5.1 on the 'Óils' Goat Island Concert was particulary interesting.
Like many of the Industry people at the time they were eventually driven out by Dickheads who viewed the forum as some sort of entertainment or game.

The site has been acquired by the hi-fi enthusiast forum StereoNet

From what I understand they will consolidate the database(s) into their existing server in Canberra so hopefully the only loss of data will be the whirlpool thread

I reckon the above was always on the cards and it was added publicity. Its pretty rare that someone will close something down and throw it away when its worth some money.
