Pioneer 111d & Buffer Underrun

Gday,

after a recent re-format and re-install, I have noticed that nero 6.3.1.20 doesn't turn on buffer underrun on my pioneer 111d DVD-RW like it used to, prior to the re-format.

I dont know whether or not nero actually controls this bit in the dvd rw or whether it is a setting by the OS (win XP SP2+updates)

I ran a little utility called driveinfo and it confirmed that "buffer underrun" is disabled, yet the 111D has the ability to use the buffer underrun technology, according to the advertising material I have found.

Anyway, does any one know if I can manually switch setting s on and/or off in the pioneer 111d DVD RW??

have you installed motherboard drivers
check that dma is enabled

Gday Mickc, yes that was one issue, DMA was not enabled on teh port that teh 111d was connected to. I enabled it and the device buffer is filling quicker. But still Nero does not report on buffer overrun enabled.

It is strange, I have another pc with xp + sp2++ with a 111d and it's device info shows that buffer underrun is checked???

It appears to be working better now with DMA enabled.

do a burn and open some apps to check if its working

What is the level of DMA? If you have an 80 wire ide cable it should be at ultra DMA 4.
My pioneer recently went back to pio and even though the enable DMA was checked it would not revert until I deleted the drivers and rebooted...I run xp sp3

Havent used nero on the other pc, I got the different info using nero's diriveinfo utility. checked each 111d and they had different buffer underrun settings, ie, one enabled, other disabled.

I have opened up several apps and the buffer doesnt suffer now that DMA support has been enabled in device manager.

just a 40pin cable so I would say standard DMA support???

As to sp3, well, it downloaded the required parts of sp3 some while ago but I still call it sp2 as that was what I installed. who knows what M$ installed during it's [i]sp3/[i] phase???
