Exclamation Intek Security Group Distributes DSC from Oct 1st

    Hi All,

We are aware that there may be alot of confusion within teh Australian Security Industry regarding Siemens discontinuing the distribution of DSC in Australia.

We would like to introduce ourselves, Intek have been distributing the DSC brand along with Optex Detection, Honeywell and Pelco Video and Genesis Access Control for over 10 years in New Zealand. We are the largest distributor in NZ and are looking to bring the excellent customer service we offer to Australia. You will notice distinct differences between how we do business and many of the existing distributors in Australia.

We would also like to point at that as of October 1st, its bussiness as usual, all existing resellers will stay in place until a review has taken place. Tech support is available now and all product warranties will be honoured by Intek.

We also wish to clarify that we have not taken the distribution away from Siemens. Due to senior managment decisions within the Siemens Group they decided to discontinue distribution from Oct 1st of all alarm products. Due to Inteks strong performance with the Brand in NZ and following presentations to DSC we were awarded exclusive distribution in Australia.

We look forward to doing business with all existing security companies and demonstrating the strength of Intek and the DSC Brand. for more information please visit

"You will notice distinct differences between how we do business and many of the existing distributors in Australia."

It will be interesting if the rumors, and what can be inferred from the positions recently advertised, are true.

Namely, that the sole branch office will be in Victoria with a rep, and only reps on the road in Qld & NSW (i.e no branches). Those reps in Qld & NSW will have to operate out of their garages. Therefore no Intek reps or branches in SA & WA.

If so, it will certainly be different.
(Whether that will work in Australia only time will tell)

Perhaps CSD have got it entirely wrong, and branches are not required for a new distribution business in the 21st century?

To think that Mark Cunnington spent all that money for nothing. You think with all those many many years in the Australian security industry he would have known better!

Then again perhaps the rumors are entirely wrong. Would Intek care to clarify?

    Question

I guess current and potential customers of DSC will have to wait till Oct 1st to find out officially about the new company's structure.

I would have thought if somebody from a new company was prepared to sign up for an account on a forum for the purpose of making an annoucement regarding that company - that it would be a good idea to answer some simple questions about that company? Or to refute some persistant rumors?

Obviously if the intention is to run the business without a branch structure, that will have a massive influence on whether people continue using the DSC product. (Not to mention if the Tech support is going to continue to run on NZ time!)

With competing wholesalers currently actively trying to convert existing DSC users, some concrete information would be useful to help make the decision whether to change to another panel......

Perhaps "excellent customer service" only applies to existing New Zealand customers - not potential new Australian ones.......

What harm can come of giving potential customers the facts?????

    Default Update

    Fair Comments phm.

Understand that several customers have already been spoken to by our General Manager and as i stated its Business as usual from day 1, nothing major that effects the way a customer purchases changes.

Full Tech Support will be provided durring normal Aust Business Hours. You may be surprised to know we have already started to provide tech support on a limited hour basis and have done so to various Australian customers for some years.

If customers are concerned they can easily contact us through our temporary webpage at inteksecurity.com.au either via the 1300 number or by emailing us, all emails will be responded to via phone or email with urgency.

Im guessing from your commenst that you may be a current Siemens Customer, we would be happy to continue supporting you with the DSC Brand, feel free to make contact with us.

As a customer centric business we would much rather talk to existing customers about the new business one on one and work to build a stronger partnership than outlay our business plans in an open forum in front of all our competitors.

Feel free to Private Message me if you wish to discuss in further detail.

I can understand that you don't want to give out confidential business information - but I wouldn't have thought the number and locations of any branches would be considered confidential......

    But hey, it's your business!

Most businesses, for whatever reason, are actually happy to let the marketplace know where they can go to purchase their goods!
(Even to go as far as having " XYZ Coming soon" on building sites).

Heck, even the freemasons advertise their branches (and they are supposed to be a secret society)!!!!!

I know when I have flogged a dead horse - so I will now let this rest.
    Good luck........

I just received a letter today from Intek.
(Dated 2 weeks in the future......... )

They are stating that they will have next day delivery to all centres in Australia.
I guess that means they are going to send kits by Air?????????
(I just hope they don't charge much for this..............)

In addition they are requesting that they be sent invoices dated prior to July 1st, so they can put in to their system the individual customers prices.

So I guess that with a little bit of help from photoshop, I will be able to get kits for $119.00 + GST..............

Which is all that I am paying at the moment.............honest!!

    :
Mail order DSC. What a joke. It will be "another one bits the dust".
They would be better off putting them up on Flea Bay.
The only winers will be the freight company. Whos going to pay the freight for returns for warranty.

I saw the same flyer today as well.

The interesting part was in fine print at the bottom of the page - "Prices valid till 30/09"

Do you think their prices will be going up, or going down on Oct 1st????

I guess that means everybody is currently getting their kits mailed to their premises as they need them? Even those "one-man-band" installers who spend all day on the road?

When you start to sell a security product via electrical outlets they are giving all of the licenced security operatives a lesson. That lesson is screw you, we don't care who we sell to (licenced or un-licenced) and thanks for your previous support but the dollar is more important to us than doing the right thing by the industry that had previously supported us.
It wont take long for the product to get a reputation as another panel for the 3 wire specialists.

    Two interesting questions;

    1) With an online ordering system how are you going to comply with the various states requirements in regards to selling to licenced security installers and confirming that the ordering party is licenced.
    2) overnight air deliveries - the air freight companies might not be too happy shipping batteries that way considering they're classified as dangerous goods.
Maybe kits will be sold without batteries?

Having just seen their new pricelist, even with the comment about higher pricing due to currency fluctuations, I can't see how Intek are going to sell at these prices even if they offer a 50% discount off the 'trade' price.

I know for a fact that the current Australian suppliers regularly sell 12V 7Ah batteries for around $15 (ex GST) and 4 core cable for well under $20.

Good luck - I won't pay those prices.

I wouldn't be suprised if their high prices are indicating a plan to use the resellers that Siemens signed up, as an integral part of their business.
A premium price with a sub standard support doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
(No branches if you exclude the resellers - as opposed to all the other panel distributors. etc)

In Australia, their total sum knowledge of the domestic security market is currently close to zero. They did not hire people from this segment of the industry.
The guy from Vic is from a failing (failed?) telco company.

It's going to be a steep learning curve!!!!!

(Also, I heard that as of the week before last, they apparantly haven't found a guy to work out of his garage in NSW yet.......)

By offering high prices by buying direct, they offer resellers a better chance of making a good margin.
(Whether the market will pay more than buying a Paradox panel direct off of CSD for instance is another thing)

They are claiming to the market that although they have almost no knowledge in Aus, they can fall back on New Zealand.
But what happens when New Zealand closes for the day????

Good luck - I think they are going to need it!!!!

Oh yeah Zaphod, try closer to $10 + GST for batts here..........
(Still haven't seen their freight charges yet either.....)

I heard that this arrangement will be on trial for six months before anything gets firmed up.
We all know lots can happen in six months in this industry.

Sounds quite probable, but it doesn't show much commitment to the Australian security market.

What happens in 6 months and they haven't got anywhere near budget??
Do they take their bat and ball and go home??

Quite a difference in attitude to CSD, which has spent mega $$$ to set up a full branch network, knowing full well that they may not recover their investment for many months (years?).
(Please note I do not work for CSD.................)

But according to their website Intek cannot take their bat and ball home. as they are already home, as they are an Australian private company!!!!

From a technical perspective they may be, but in reality they are not really.

Intek Security Group as a trading entity is a limited partnership, with partners of Intek Security Group Pty Ltd and Toowoomba Ltd.
Toowoomba is a New Zealand company with New Zealand shareholders and directors.
Intek Security Group Pty Ltd is an Australian registered company with the sole shareholder being Toowoomba Ltd (which is a New Zealand company).
