Thumbs down Police to restrict alcohol at Bathust.

Petrol heads will have to survive on a slab of beer a day at next month's Bathurst 1000 car race.

Police checkpoints will confiscate "excess alcohol" as motor racing fans descend on Mt Panorama, in NSW's central west, for the October 9-12 event.

For the second year running, NSW Police and V8 Supercars have agreed to limit the amount of beer, wine and spirits taken into the racing precinct.

Adults can take one case (24 cans) of full-strength beer or one block (36 cans) of light beer each day.

Restrictions also apply to one case (24 cans) of pre-mixed drinks or one cask of wine, up to four litres.

Combinations are not allowed, and no glass containers are permitted in camping areas or within the race precinct.

Police said the limits were fair and would reduce the risk of alcohol-fuelled violence and anti-social behaviour.

"These restrictions are very generous," Chief Superintendent Steve Cullen said in a statement on Sunday.

"Anyone who needs to drink more than 24 cans of beer in a day to have a good time is not welcome.

"This is a sporting event unlike any other with 30,000 people living in campsites around the Mt Panorama circuit for up to a week prior to the actual race.

"It's important we work hand in glove with event organisers to ensure the safety of racegoers."

The measures follow the success of last year's security operation, Supt Cullen said.

Police and security personnel will set up checkpoints at every entrance area to the race circuit.

Excess alcohol will be stored by event staff and be available for collection the following day.
    .................................................. .................................................. ...

Only 24 cans full strength per person per day?

    How will they survive LOL

I didnt know that its the second year that restrictions have been in place.

    I like my beer.

Go to the Clipsal every year and easily get through 15 in a day cause it's so friggin' hot in the sun.

You don't piss much when it's hot and you're in the sun, and I reckon you don't get as shlaggered either.

But that's just a day event, so 24 is a bit light if you're partying on through the night.

I think it's very, very harsh.

It's a shame police have been ****ing the mountain thing...

The rules of the mountain are very simple and clear go hard or go home...

There are plenty of other camping areas for families and sure everything is under control on the mountain on the day if spectators wish to visit and view the race from the hill... but staying on the mountain is sacred / unchanged from day dot and should be left as is I have had some of my best weeks ever camping with friends on the hill...

    That’s my opinion...

The best words to describe the mountain....oh so true

Its a shame that they want to tone it down.

The drivers push to the limit on a legendry track, the spectators on top of the hill and their antics are as much a part of the race.

Ever seen a girl scared out of her mind because a bunch ( yep, more than 3) of fat, bogan beer swilling retards decided they wanted to see her tits???
I'm not talking about some ugg boot fatty Ho either.. Just a young girl who went to the top of the Mountain with friends who didn't know any better. I have and it was bad news... The bogans only defence is that they thought that she should not have been there if she wasn't going to go along with their program. Yep, no brains in those heads..
Maybe signs should have been put up warning of the pending danger from these losers..
Yeah I've been there.. been in the bull ring, picked up friends from the Cop shop for driving and drinkin offences and then stayed a week to see them in court. Problem is that some just don't know how to have fun and some think that the Mountain is a licence to become an as-shole.

I remember when I was up years ago what looked like dads mint Rover V8 coupe full of mates went into the ring to do a bit of circle work. The young driver got the car caught up on a stump and couldnt drive or reverse off it. Of course someone yells stone it and another burn it and rocks started pelting the car. They all got out so fast and then it got rolled and burnt like they do.

and exactly who is making these rules? police? last time I heard police enforce rules not make them, research required here, If the police are being told to enforce a law/requirement by a legitimate authority then fair cop, if they are making it up as they go then I smell injunction. if its the bathurst city council then a little loss of income for the town and covert pressure should sort it out.

Event organiser can restrict the booze. Infact I can remember in the 80's that they would search and take any booze that you tried to get past the check point on the way to the mountain. Saw them drag a "bean bag" full of beer cans out a mini bus. Funny thing was as the bus left you could see all the cans stuffed down behind the back seat, throught the rear window of the bus
We had a case of beer in the engine bay and one under a mate of mine who is a dwarf.Just got him to put on a trench coat and sit on the case.

Everyone will have to drink the whole can instead of drinking half a can 24 times and saying " I drank a slab "

if you need excessive booze to enjoy yourselves in an area where family's go then why go there why not go down to the pub where you can get pissed and start a fight instead of spoiling the majority of families days out

Talking Assault with a dildo? Maybe with intent to f**k the officer?

Two Bathurst 1000 spectators have been banned from the event after two separate incidents involving a sex toy and porn videos.

Police were patrolling a camping site at Mount Panorama when they saw a man watching pornographic material on a television perched on a homemade trolley.

The 35-year-old was arrested and taken to an on-site police station where he was questioned and charged for displaying pornographic material.

After searching the man's tent, police discovered over 20 X-rated DVD's within his possession.

Following the incident, another man allegedly assaulted a policeman who was sitting in his patrol car.

The 22-year-old man has been accused of striking the police officer in the head with a dildo.

Both men have been bailed to appear at Bathurst Local Court on November 10.
