windows vista problem

I want to recover my hard drive files currently a system file in windows is corrupt wish to know how I can recover my files on the hard drive i have tried going into safe mode and all other alternatives i have a recovery disk but unfortunately it would erase all my files on the hard drive if there is a way to use dos so i can backup the files or just from recovery disk use windows files only i have a asus laptop with that recovery disk please suggest what is the best method for recovery

remove the hard drive and install it into an external case.

use another computer to back up your files.

put the hard drive back into the laptop and use the recovery disk to reinstall windows,

copy the saved files back to the laptop.

ok but is there another way as well besides this i am not really a technical person to that what about usb connection or if i had another windows vista program boot disk would this overwrite the current windows vista program and preserve the current files on that hard disk

There are only a couple of ways to do it.

Either via Hoe's method above, or you will need an NTFS boot disc. You can download the .iso file to make one from off the net.

If you are not technically minded, I suggest you seek the help of a friend or someone who is - because if you do this the wrong way you risk losing your files.
