boot into the bios and check the usb settings............
OK I will try to explain the problem and if someone needs further details to help me solve the problem, I will try to provide it.
Basically I purchased a second hand computer at a going out of business auction (It was cheap and more than I needed, but it was cheap) Compaq/HP Duel Core computer for a jukebox project I have going. It came without any software but lots of USB ports front and back of which none work for flash drives or external HDD. This is where it gets strange because a USB keyboard is working on the PC. I'm assuming there is a need for some sort of driver or changes to the initial set??? I have XP installed on it now.
I'm clueless. Any help greatly appreciated.

OK will do that, what should the settings be ??
dependent on the motherboard some motherboards name it differently.
something along the lines of usb mass storage would be my first guess.
have a look though shouldnt be that hard to sus out.
Have you installed the motherboard / chipset drivers, if not try hp driver support
