    Default Telstra read back number.

We all use the 12722*** for retrieving the panel line number but what about private numbers ?

Apparently there is another number before the above one that will give you access to it.
Also Optus you can't use the above Telstra one......what do we use ?

Yeah could dial 1832 and then your mobile number. It should then display the line number.
I do this for people who want the alarm to ring their mobile if they have the caller ID blocked on the land line. That way they know it is home calling.

Or try 1800 801 920 this as worked for me when the 12722123 doesn't.

Have a look here for more

    Thanks for that.

Good idea with the private line for mobile monitoring.

    Cheers.

EDIT -> realised someone else posted the same link in the thread.

I think it is a good idea to add the 1832 prefix if the alarm rings back the owner's mobile phone. I have this working for my VOIP line, as I don't have a real telephone line. I don't really need a monitored alarm system, but having it call my mobile is better than nothing.

kinda off topic... but are telephone lines used for alarms silent by default? And does it cost more?

In a typical residential scenario, the phone line goes to the alarm panel in what is known as Mode 3, so the phone number on that line is the same as the house. So if the house number is private the alarm panel will dial out on a private number, if it isn't it will have the caller ID etc.

So to answer your question, the telephone caller ID is default as per your service provider.

As mentioned, in a typical residential alarm install, the alarm uses the normal phone line, so it's not silent by default. (eg: most people have their phone number in the directory)

You can of course pay for a separate line.

Yes, you can have a silent number (eg: unlisted) and yes, it does cost extra.

ta, I was just curious because it sounded like a few of these lines are silent... and it made sense if its a seperate line... you dont want the number to be listed.. but I guess it doesnt matter
