Throw in bin
Hey guys not a troll post, im just wondering if theres anything useful on free Ku band these days, just having a clean up and found some old decoders ie 4800II and 5410Z etc and a motec, wondering if its worth having a play around again or toss them in the bin? or if they are any good to anyone. last time they were used was 7-8 years ago

Throw in bin
IF EVOLUTION WORKS, WHY SO MANY IDIOTS?
Not much the old clunkers will receive these days with most (worthwhile) transponders on DVB-S2.
DJMatt may be interested in them for some plasma coffee table legs.
What's useful to some is not useful for others, and without knowing either your location or your preference in programming, it's not possible to provide a specific answer to your question. You can however do a little of your own research as under.
Explore a site such as lyngsat.com and check the Ku-band listings for all those satellites in your region (Asia/Pacific for Australia) and are visible from your location. (If you don't know the latitude and longitude for your particular area use an internet SEARCH engine to find out).
should get you started. (Hint: click on the word 'This' at the beginning of the sentence).
Also bear in mind that many transmissions utilise DVB-S2 and MPEG 4, which the Humax 5410Z and similar receivers (check their specifications in the respective manuals or on-line) will not resolve.
If the Moteck positioner is still serviceable and is complete with all mounting brackets etc., there is no reason why it cannot be used to move small Ku-band dishes for multi-satellite reception with a single dish if you wish to do so.
bin sounds good...
the last time these were used were when jomac interfaces and BF430's were the in thing
I still have a Humax 5400 i got through a retailer on here many many years ago. had something done to it ( Chipped or programmed or something.. worth anything or I throw it in the bin

Oh my Gosh! Finally got to see a picture of an Australian UEC DSD 700 and Pace DGT 400!
Yeah, those were the days...sigh Those receivers go back to the mid to late nineties - there are even analogue ones. Most of these old boxes were worth several hundred dollars new.
The Hummies are all early 5400s not Zs that had PSU issues but have been fixed. Most have ToH3.4 HoT115 on them.
The Scientific Atlanta boxes are all from old Imparja and regional TV use.
Most of these receivers have been given to me over the years because they needed fixing or testing.
Most are fixed to go, but the owners no longer wanted them. It does seem a shame to bin the lot though - end of an era.
But, streaming is where it is at now - governments will fall, anarchies will reign. It's a brave new world....
I'm having a shed clean out - old dishes, receivers and other junk.
Probably keep a Nokia and a Hummie 5400, for nostalgia reasons, to clutter up the shed and bin the rest...
The v-box is still useful if you have a C-band dish.
I will keep the CAMS as some are still of use and they don't take up much room and will live in a draw for a few more years before they too will probably make it to the bin.
A pile of CAMS.
