I have used for about a year for my own personal mess about website without any dramas.
The only annoying things I can think off is that they lock your website for 24 hours to check if you aren't breaking their and for that 24 hour period it displays a message that the site has been locked. I think its in the first two week period of setting up your site.
Also you need a little bit of traffic to keep your site open I think its about 10 visitors a month.
Another free web host is 110mb, I haven't used them.
- 5 GB Disk Space
- 300 GB Bandwidth
- Max File Size Upload Limit 8 MB
- Ad-Free etc etc

try bluehost. they seem fine, have a bit of down time but cheap and any down time is very very minimal. like within mins its back up, they are shared servers but for the price you cant go wrong.
You get what you pay for really. I do hosting, on my own servers, at my own office, running my own fibre connections etc and that all costs money so the customer has to expect to pay a reasonable fee for it. But when your running a business and relying on your website, it doesn't take much downtime to justify the monthly fee. As far as downtime, I have had no unscheduled downtime at all for the previous 12 months which I think more than justifies the monthly fee.
All that said, when its just a personal site to play with, then a free or very cheap hosting option is probably more than sufficient for most.
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?
