Very simple call a licensed tech to reprogram the panel for you, should be able to find a local company service calls range from $50 and higher average is around $80 to $90 depends on area, most companies or sole trader security tech's should be able to help.

    On an old 236
I would just remove the plug-
    telephone lead inside the panel,

You will require a KEY if the box doesn't have screws in it,

Make sure your phone works after the fact as sometimes the little pins dont come back together, easily fixed by sticking a small screw driver in the front of the 611 socket (has two semi circles on top)

All else fails call lifeline, they give things out for free.

    hi all,

    thanks for your replies.

im unable to open the alarm box, as it has a key lock. i cannot see any phone socket or lead around the box, so im assuming its inside the box.
the keylock has number 221 on it. is this a special key? if i go to a locksmith and ask him for a 221 key, will he understand what key that is?

in regards to the programing, i have studied at tafe, and have done some limited programing. im assuming the alarm programing is the same.

just need a manual to read it, and i think, i should be able to do it .

if no one is willing to tell how the alarm can be decomisioned, can you at least tell me if there is an instruction manual for this alarm, and were i could get one?

    thanks

I would suffice with drilling the guts of the lock out, and then placing two screws in the side to secure it

The siren may activate on opening of the box if the tamper is programmed,

Best of luck, post back results

    Keys are readily available

    hi all,

got a 221 key from locksmith for around 7 bucks...opened alarm box...sirens went off...switched off alarm with code.

checked wiring in box, and found the telephone wire. i took it out of the clip. closed box. all seemed ok, but the house telephone now is not working.

i put the phone socket in alarm box back, and phone is working ok.
the alarm plug has 4 gold pins in it, but how do you fix them with a screwdriver so house phone works?

i also noticed the alarm has a large battery in it. how often do these need replacing? and were could i get a replacement?

    @minitech
thanks for manual. had a read through it, but doesnt say how alarm can be deprogramed. is there also any other manual for programming purposes?

    thanks

Your key is worth more than the panel.

If you pulled out the rj12 in the box & lost your house phone then it is wired in mode 3. Your phone line loops through you alarm & then back to you phones. When you pull the RJ12 out you have effectively o/c you phone line. You will need to find the other end of that RJ12 plug & hopefully it will terminate in a 611 socket. This is the older type larger cream coloured plug/ socket arrangement & there should be a CC logo on the socket cover. If this is the case then just unplug from the socket. The socket has make contacts that switch your phone line through when the plug is removed. Of course this is assuming that the cabling has been done correctly in the first place. You will still need some reprogramming of the panel , this just stops the phone calls from the panel.

The manual our helpful friend "minitechie_94" sent you the link to, is a USER manual, it will not help with installer programming,
also you will require the Installer code to make any changes.
or you could power down then up and maybe by luck it won't have pirate guard enabled and you can enter the default code XXXXXX then Star zero Hash to gain entry. You will require the manual before attempting this step.

I would just unplug the yellow lead (as above in bold from my original post) as this will suffice. I wouldn't bother with the programming as its just a dumb panel and wont know the line is disconnected.

theres no default switch on the c&ks and besides why would he want to default it when he doesnt have a manual anyway.

Why are people even advising people to default panels anyway, leads to a whole world of shit where they have to somehow get the panel reprogrammed, ie getting a tech out. Just get a tech out in the first place. Or do as AusSecTec said

Call telstra out to install a new line, no phone line will work after a CK 236i has been on it.

    Thats correct Chimp
No default "switch" maybe some solder pads or was it some jumpers...

I appreciate your support on my advice.

I wouldn't be advising him to default it either- to many ramifications.

Cant believe you can still buy these panels from Honeywell. I guess DAS still sell tecom not much difference really. Both were designed 20 years ago.

    hi all

    thanks for replies

i disconected the phone lead/plug on both ends , as advised and house phones are working ok.

the alarm now wont make any phone calls, and all is showing good on keypad for over a day. hasent noticed the cable missing. guessed i saved myself some money for a simple task like that.

my other question how often does the big battery need replacing? and were can i get one? are they readily available?
security company advised charges of $186 for a battery replacement...

    thanks

battery generally last 3-5 years. About $50 at Dick Smith $30 Jaycar both are still a rip off not as much as your security company is though. You need a 12vdc 7amph.

probably in the next 7 days your service light on your keypad willl start flashing rapidly indicating the panel cant communicate to the control room ,
this will continue to flash till comms restore or panel programed for local only

I would only suggest that you call in a service tech who is independant of the big 3,

    Not
    Adt, chubb, signature,
Find a small operator who can handle the task.
Get him to replace the battery and then perform the small programming changes to disable your dialler from reporting.

A non monitored alarm is not as effective as a monitored system,
seems you need a change if a company wants $ 180+ for a battery replacement.
    I wouldn't be paying more then $ 100 including a panasonic battery.

Good to see you performed the simple task yourself friend, only to happy to help a mere mortal.
