Default Optus data plan via Mobile........

I have just moved my business to new premises a couple of km down the road.
This meant transferring my adsl etc.
Unfortunately there was no dial tone at the new premises, telstra advised 6 weeks to connect......
Also i am connected (yesterday) to the Kalgoorlie exchange, 4.5km away NOT Boulder, which is about 1.5km away and where my previous line was connected.
I previously had a very good sync, 21/1Mb....
I suspect this connection will be barely usable, hopefully nbn will be here in January....

As a stop gap i decided to go to telstra and get some extra data on the phone/tablet plan i currently have, Nope, way too expensive and very unhelpful.

I also have an optus work phone for some mine sites who have optus towers.
The very helpful and knowledgeable lady in the local optus shop added a 100gig per month shared data casual plan to my number for $70/month.
i purchased a usb stick for $39 and plugged it into my billion router.

Works very well, full signal and very good speeds, as per my sig which was middle of the day.

    link:

If you buy a tablet/phone as a new customer you can get 140gig/month for same price....

If I wasnt such a big downloader/iptv watcher it would have been plenty until nbn gets here....

Now waiting/waiting for that DSL led to light up so i can see how bad the line is......

Looking at this, my nbn speeds should be pretty reasonable.....

    Estimated Download Rate: 55-94 Mbps
    Estimated Upload Rate: 22-38 Mbps

Curious about the re connection as My daughter has just moved house and has to wait 5 weeks she said. What I dont know is if there was a telephone connected there before or not but I thought if the Landline was in already place, the line at least was left active for around 6 months (no incoming and you can only dial a Telstra reconnect number) and after that it went dead and was considered a new install.

Optus had a couple selling their services in the local Shopping centre and one of the plans they offered me for Wireless Mobile was way cheaper that what I had when I was using Telstra.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Your in a rural area Gordon, does Optus actually work there ? They can offer it to you, but its up to you to find out how good the signal is where you use it before you buy it.

I cant even get an Optus signal at my mother in laws place. Telstra is miles ahead outside the cities, but if you are lucky enough to have a tower nearby and can get cheap data then go for it.

Regardless, the competition from Optus and Vodafone keeps pressure on Telstra's prices which have slowly been falling.

    A bit of a strange one ??

It is hard to find someone competent to talk to at Telstra at times, and you would probably need to find someone to find out why they think you need to be connected to that exchange.

I presume the Optus offer is enough for work ? If so you are probably better off just waiting for the NBN.

I am 4.5 kms from the exchange on ADSL2 and get great speeds buts thats only because I am connected through a Telstra Top Hat.

not sure if this site has been mentioned before, but has made finding whats out there in wireless broadband land a lot easier, helped me when i had the inlaws complaining about slow wireless broadband, change of carrier and 10 fold increase in speeds both up and down

The exchange might be next door, but if the cable goes around the block first, to all intents and purposes it could be 100 miles away (if it's a typical rural block).
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for your information. Actually, I am very confused regarding these mobile plans. I am planning a holiday in the China and I am looking for best Chinese language learning tools on the mobile phone. And also I am looking for the best mobile plan that is cheap in price. But I have no knowledge about these things. Can anybody help me and give me an idea about this?

    Andrew,

    As per the site rules...

Do not hijack other threads... start your own.

I suggest in your case, when you post, to mention which country you are in to see if there are roaming options available.

You would likely be better off looking at Chinese websites/providers, rather than Australia.

Optus has always worked here but its always been the poor cousin to Telstra which in the early days was a bit hit and miss.

Over the last year or so, Optus have improved quite markedly for indoor reception which is always a good indicator of a service.

One thing that Telstra has had in its favour is that many of their Mobiles provide a socket for an external antenna.
