    Default Windscreen Stone Chip Repair

Anyone here had success with a stone chip repair kit?

Or do you just go to a Windscreen place?

Go to a professional, they will do it right.
If you stuff it up it will chew your wiper blades up.

When I had my Landcruiser windscreen replaced at O'Brien® AutoGlass the guy gave me some little stick on patches to put on stone chips to keep the dirt out until it gets repaired. He said makes a big difference if done clean & correctly.
    Cheers, Tiny

If it is smaller than a 20 cent piece in circumference size - it can be glued and repaired by a professional. I certainly would not do it yourself. A repair not done properly can crack from the hit point on the windscreen.

Anything larger in size than a 20 cent piece a glazier would normally replace the whole windscreen.

I had a "bum" of a kid at work throw a bullseye stone at my car and unfortunately the hit on the windscreen (bullseye) was slightly larger than a 20 cent piece size and the windscreen had to be replaced!

    Good luck with the repair!

    David.

Mate why bother, most insurance policies cover one replacement a year free.

Obviously lam., safety shatters. To stop crack/s spreading drill small hole in crack extremity. Cover with tape inside. If don,t, crack will extend whole windscreen.

Yep, had a few chips filled by the pro's, only you will be able to tell where the chip was

I would go to see a Professional ASAP as temperature changes (cold mornings etc) can make it bigger quickly.

Or as suggested, check your car insurance policy, you might be lucky.

    Ok, thanks guys
It is a Star Crack, size of a 10 cent piece.

It is on the passenger side about 150mm up from bottom of window.
Im just pissed off, as it is recently a new windscreen! (of course, when else would it happen)

And it happend on one of those roads that goes 2 lane, then 1 lane and you both have to get off on the shoulder to pass
Everyone had been really good, slowly to 80 or 70 as to not throw up stones
Then a freaking Truck and Trailer came flying at me.... Slow down, pfft!!!! NOT!

    Hi oceanboy,

The fact it is on the passenger side and it is only the size of a 10 cent piece it should glue up fine.

I would get on to it and get it fixed and certainly not leave it.

My wife and I have found a number of insurance companies don't give a free windscreen anymore without quite a premium hike! Seemed to be a lot more free windscreens going around at a much fairer premium some years ago. We can get a free windscreen but the premium goes up and up with quite a number of insurance companies we contacted.

    David.
