I think from memory (geez I hate relying on it), he was an older bloke possibly about 70 ? If so, he might have departed this life.

Despite what people thought at the time, I wasnt in cahoots with him and I dont think I ever even spoke to him via email......christ I am boring, I lift the lid on all these decades old secrets and there is nothing to tell.

That, sadly is one of the problems with online "friendships" like this, Someone drops off the board, and we have no idea if they've just taken their bat and ball and gone home, or found a bucket to kick. It would be good if there were a couple of RL friends who could advise us, but, often, that is not possible, usually, because they are not regulars here. It might be a good idea to organise a Meet and greet in the various major centres for members of that region on occasion. At least, that way, some of us might get to know others who share a common interest (i.e. Austech)

    Happy Birthday Austech.

I am probably showing my age, but here is my trip down memory lane:

Joined before the crash to learn the Goldies and Whites, and anything to do with communications, computers and electronics.
First computer I used - Commodore 64; complete with 1541 5.25" Floppy Drive and Tape Drive with Munchman 64 game on tape.
First purchased computer - IBM PC Colt; complete with dual 5.25" Floppies and a whopping large 20Mb HDD, with MSDOS 3.21 and Windows 3.11 for Workgroups.

Even though we have had some colourful characters, and those that only join to demand software and offer nothing in return, there are plenty of members that have put in amazing reviews of equipment, and others that have offered an incredible amount of help and assistance to strangers that would normally see them charged large sums of money for.

Fantastic forum that's a wealth of knowledge and happy to support and see continue for many more decades.

    Well ,

I started with a HP-25 calculator doing some sequences( Programming..Uhh?) then HP-65 with magnetic cards...then Sinclair ,Z80 Radio Shack , VIC 32 and Commodore 64...
My first real CPS was a 2764 Eprom programmer in DOS IBM 8086XT for a exuberant Newtec VHF Radio...the rest is History...
My first rel HF radio was a Viking Valiant II ,so you can figure out my Age...

Congrats for all achievements and keep working to keep this forum the best.

I remember being on CDcopyword and getting a Printed T shirt with" Cdcopywold burn baby burn" I forget who organized the printing of them but it was a member and a group buy of sorts.I think burning playstation games and chipping was my interest at the time i had just got my first burner (Yamaha)
Shorty after the forum was changed to Austech. I moved over to the new forum and I can remember some of the old Thoic Sat members arrived and forum took a turn towards pay TV big time. There was a member called "Mega" and I got a nasty Email from his mate about trying to be better than him because I had "Super" in front of my nic .I explained that I was a member before he ever got to Austech and was also on copyworld before that. All a bit amusing at the time.
I'm not a huge poster but I come here from time to time to see how things are going.

Happy 20 years and thank you for all the info and help I have received over the years

    Happy Birthday Austech!

Thanks for the assistance you have provided so far.

Ok, I'm fairly new so don't know all the history. Pretty remote (Canada eh) from knowing what's up down under, but I'll participate where I can.

I *think* I can remember getting a complaint about it from him, or his mate

You should have sold it to him and cashed in

    Apologies for the late reply

Happy Birthday to Austech and its founders and staff.
It has out lived many other forums and like a good rock band, has found a way to re-create itself for the modern era.

The site has meant a lot of things to a lot of people
Been fun to be a part of.
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

I also remember sometimes clinging onto the edge of my seat as a forum member self destructs over the course of a night ....

sometimes comes in after having a bad day .... then get his nose out of joint with another member ..... then has a total melt down ..... then attracts the attention of a Moderator who Bans him & shows him the door ...

Sometimes vowing I'l be back ..... and you'l never be rid of me .... etc ....

but the Moderators take care of them ..... (I am also sometimes amazed how quickly the moderators handle the spammers a forum like this attracts ....)

It was all good entertainment though .....

others just left quietly when things went wrong ....

and others who came back as a new user name & had a change of mind were allowed to stay ....

It was only a couple of days ago I saw a member post and thought the name rang a bell from a dummy spit.

Searched back through his posts and yep, a full page I am leaving post 3 years ago I said good, go ! Seems he must have missed us.
