    have to agree, Toshiba seem to knwo their stuff with these units...

    A CRT emulated 50hz LCD panel (great for video and text), decent GFX card ( less than a 7300 and ur wasting ur time.. mine runs doom3 at 120fps without skipping a beat) battery power is fairly decent.. i got mine about 3yrs ago for $1700 and by todays standard its still up there with the best of 'em so im not complaining.

    I edit and render full res HD video with Magic Bullet2 using dual Core and GPU plugins that run faster than realtime... using external USB drives and it doesnt skip a beat... knock on wood, I havent even had any SW faults on it to warrant a reinstall of the OS.
    All drivers have worked flawlessly from BT through to the dodgy soundcard, through to DUN...

    the only issue I have is the burner is quite crap and has only done abotu 500 odd burns before i started noticing its starting to get picky with media thrown at it...

    Personally I am not overly Brand loyal these days as I have seen troublesome notebook models with pretty much every brand name on them.

    As a rule though I would agree with Toshiba being mostly a solid choice and also worth a mention are IBM/Lenovo and Dell who have made many rock solid models in the past (D 4/5/6 series amongst others).

    Gotta say Toshiba, bit pricey though. I Have a Dell XPS M1530 for about 9 months now no issues.

    i have had 5 Asus laptops i just keep passing them onto family as i keep upgrading and have never had an issue only on my second last laptop i took it into the service center they changed the LCD and as a precaution the graphics card as well all in 24hrs i have had other brands but IMO nothing touches them. I now also use their motherboards in two desktops and again they are bullet proof( except if you actually do shoot them).

    anything but sony, they are a racist company, why ? they seem to have this thing about making all their peripherals memory cards to only work in their machines, hence if u have a sony memory card, u need a sony computer to read it.

    I preferred the 'old' dell series/models. Has been using Dell inspiron 9300 (17") for the past 4 years.

    Anyway my favorite brand which I also think is the best is AlienWare. Would love to have one if possible. They are costly though.

    I have two Asus laptops (why I have two, because I horde!) and I will probably buy them again, thats how happy I am with them.
    Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.

    Motorola ML910, and here's why

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckIV1MhGbXo]YouTube - Motorola ML910 vs Panasonic Toughbook CF-30[/ame]

    I am forever dropping the darn things during my day-to-day work I had to take the step up to one of these babies. One time I left mine on the roof of my work car and drove 15Km's with it on the roof, once I hit the M4 Entrance headed west, the thing flew off and the car behind me ran over it. I pulled over and picked it up and I'm still using it today.
