Default What is the best Laptop Brand in your opinion?

Just out of curiosity guys, I would like to know which laptop brand is your favorite in concern of less hardware breakdown, easier to fix and deal with, company support, etc.....
and what would you recommend to your customers as a technician?
    Brands to discuss:
    Toshiba
    Asus
    Acer
    Dell
    HP/Compaq
    Sony Vaio
    Lenovo
    MSI, etc...

Thanks in advance for your inputs guys.

urban_s0ulja have to agree with you on the Acer, the wrty really sucks my mate got a new one and it took her 6 months and 4 returns to get it exchanged,
    she was not happy.
But saying that my Acer is going like a dream

I have an Acer that is bullet proof, carry it around in a back pack, through it in the truck, covered in dust, almost 2 years old still going hard.
It's hard to make a come back when I havn't been anywhere
I finally got my head together, now my bodies falling apart.

IBM/Lenovo. Been using them for the last 8 years and barely had an issue. Not even a screen failure. I just unboxed a new tablet tonight and it has one hot pixel which I have never had on an IBM. Toshiba I have had many. I have had Dell and not too bad for an inexpensive laptop with good warranty in the past but I haven't had to look after them for a few years.

been accredited with toshiba pro care (means nothing to no one unless in industry) and I go

    Toshiba.
    Acer
    then hp/compaq

anything else depends on the $$$

I hate compaq as a brand but since the buy out its been improved.

Toshiba....Definitely #1(but....not the mums and dads Harvey Norman models.)

Tecra and Portege....the best of their range.

Last month had over 100 come through my office and not one DOA.

Last year approx 800 sold by my company and only one DOA (smashed LCD).

Over the last 17 years they had their problems, but always fixed them.

An outstanding, professional company to deal with.

Spare parts always available....not like cheaper brands.

But not cheap...you get what you pay for...

    My second choice?

    Panasonic Toughbooks.
Have a look at the CF-W7.
    Absolutely sensational hardware.

But...when it breaks you will be waiting along time...2 to 3 weeks.
Why? Cause they are so reliable no-one knows how to fix them.
And unfortunately they use idiots like the former "Monitek" guys as service agents.

    Hi Guys

Been accredited to repair the following

    Toshiba
    IBM/Lenovo
    HP/Compaq
    Acer

    My personal choice is Asus

I would'nt touch a HP, HP don't make laptops, its all made by Compal, and working oh heaps of there models, I think they are crap....

My Advice, get a brand with the longest warranty, most brands have 1 year warranty, Asus have a 2 year warranty out of the box!!!!

    Thats my 2 cents worth

I hear you and kind of agree, anything THAT was a compaq machine was dodgy as.... but some of the HP/compaq models are much better now....

used to dread when some one bought in a compaq.....

i am using a Hp/compaq 9110 now and am very happy with it (even though under spec)

I have owned the following :

IBM - Shit itself once a few years old and too many issues to worry about repairing.

TPG - A bargain at $1000 at the time and still goes to this day. The only thing that has gone wrong with it is the original hard drive shit itself ( Toshiba ) and a broken hinge from being dropped by kids.

HP / Compaq - About 3 years old now , still works fine with no issues at all in this time.

Acer - Less than 12 months old , no problems so far.

I personally prefer toshiba and it's the only brand I have ever purchased and owned,
The amount of HP/Compaq, Dell and Acer we get for repair, it's not funny.
I like Asus it seems to be a well done brand.

Toshiba Tecra. Had it dropped from about 2 metres height on to the floor while on and nothing happened, except smashed case corner (very slight).
In a past had to replace at least three HP (Compaqs) for different reasons.

Toshiba is the clear winner here.

    Justifiably so me thinks.

I was put off Toshiba around 2001 when we bought 10 laptops and a few had hot pixels out of the box. After 6 mths, half had 4+ hot pixels and toshiba wouldn't replace the lcd's because their policy was something along the lines of there had to be so many hot pixels in a square inch and these were scattered across the screen. Been buying IBM ever since and 1 screen failure in 7yrs. Just took delivery of 25 Lenovo T61 so it will be interesting to see if the Lenovo badged gear lives up to our 'IBM' expectations.

Had my Toshiba Satellite M100 for the last 2 years and it's been excellent. No issues whatsoever with it.
Granted it's not a Ferrari of laptops but all I really use it for is accessing email etc when I'm on the road and as a service tool when programming up transmitters etc.

Incidentally, if someone has a black lid off an A100 in mint condition, please message me.

One more thing that makes me like Toshiba over all, is the availability of drivers for both OS vista and xp which makes downgrades fairly easy at most times.
Go Toshiba, you are the winner.

I just found out how good sony vaio laptops are..they might have the same specifications with cheaper brands like acer or asus, but its the built that you are paying for, they might be expensive but its worth it. just my 2 cents.
