Yep, I would agree its a bit of a dogs breakfast when it comes to international speeds.

Unfortunately I never did an international speed test with Belong before I left.....which is why I want to rule our hardware out. Have you previously had a good international speed test with the Asus or just noticed the issue ?

I will fire up the Belong modem in the morning and see what it says, Belong, Telstra and Aussie all use the same protocol to connect.

so it seems it is not your modem but just our internet.
And get a life admin as abb uses Telstra hence why Telstra was brought up ffs.

If you don't have anything intelligent to say, get out of the thread or I will remove you from it. Your post was garbage with no facts in it, go moan somewhere else this is a technical discussion.

Ok, I fired up the Belong modem and I think its safe to say its nothing to do with the Asus.

The Belong modem uses a Broadcom chipset, V's the Asus's Mediatek, so if anything the Belong modem should be a little better on speed. But it wasn't.

    Asus : Ping 219, 33.13 Down, 7.56 Up
    Belong : Ping 224, 30.72 Down, 14.52 Up

A second test on the Belong modem :
    Ping 218, 32.23 Down, 11.71 Up.

So basically, its pretty disappointing but at least rules out an obscure Asus modem issue.

Which leaves us with the unanswered question, why are we having this problem ?

If it was a widespread issue, bot ABB and Telstra's forums at Whirlpool would be falling over. Neither have issued any notifications of slow international speeds that I can see and no one but us are complaining of them. We don't live near each other, from memory not even in the same state.

Back on the Asus now , and I am at a lowly 25 and 7 with a Ping of 219 to NYC AT&T.

fandtm66, can you check your modem and confirm that 802.1Q is enabled ?

I just noticed mine was off again, I dont know whether turning the modem off has defaulted it back to off or something funny is going on and we have both been defaulted to off.

I have since done a test to Soft tel in Singapore and got 50 down, which is a lot better than before.

Just out of interest, I thought I would try putting the Beyond modem in bridge mode and connect to the Asus.

When I put the Beyond modem in bridge mode it refuses to connect, so out of interest I put it back to normal mode and ran an ethernet cable from it to the Asus, which I changed to "ethernet wan, lan port 1".

So basically, the Asus is using the Beyond's internet.

I was surprised to see how much faster the Beyond's Broadcom chipset was to the Asus's Mediatek. I am now hitting 80/40 in local speedtest.......the Asus was only managing about 70/35. An extra 10/5 was surprising , I didnt think it would be that much. I would have guessed half of that.

I might keep it running like this.
