The Alternator light wont go out until the engine is running at speed. The most common cause for the light to come on with the engine running is it is too slow or a slipping belt.
Even though its a serpentine belt, it doesnt hurt to check the tensioner is doing its job and the pully on the alternator is tight and the belt is not worn.
If however your Alternator light is coming on when your driving could indicate a there is a problem in the alternator.
I dont know how Ford wire there Alternators but I have had 2 fail without warning on this wagon.
The first time it happened was when I was driving in daylight with the Radio on and when I used the Indicators, the Radio went off !!!
Everything appeared normal some 20 minutes earlier when I started the car to go shopping.
Idle ranges between 500 to 700 RPM depending Auto/Manual/ XR6 etc.
According to the workshop manual, Fuse number 2 for the Reversing Lights is indeed 15 AMP.
