Several news sources have reported some AFN services were going to be restored, regardless whether the govt shutdown continued or not.

Shut everything down first then see who screams the loudest with the most 'Clout' to restore what is essential like a few Football games even if the Troops, Govt workers andretiree's etc arent getting any money to pay the bills and buy food, have to get your priorities right, eh??

Bit of a bump here but was services for AFN restored in the end? And is it safe to assume you can't pick up AFN unless you're up near Darwin?
I never tried to pick an AFN feed years ago but I figured I'd give it a shot now if it's possible.

On the global beam strong enough to not need a plate in most places

Ah yes the Global beam, I meant the North hemi one but that only scrapes the top half of AUS so I defiantly think you'd need to be up there with a very strong dish to get it.

I might point my C-Band that way, looks like I'll need to 'acquire' some PowerVU keys though :/ Not sure how hard that process is.

i'm serously thinking about getting a C band dish put in to tune into AFN and replace foxtel.

Just got a few questions - the Skybox A1 mentioned here - that does the decoding for you so you don't need to register your decoder? it's a pirate decoder? if so where is the best place to buy them?

I know i can probally find a stream somewhere but i've found them to be too unreliable

Yes, the Skybox will 'auto-rollover' PowerVU keys needed to view AFN. Probably aliexpress or eBay, any linux/enigma unit will also work or a pci-e card with vplug plugin.

It could stop working at any time due to encryption changes but it hasn't for the past like 8 years bla bla bla.
I doubt it will either they'd have to replace the boxes on every ship in active deployment and such... Not gonna happen.

Good to know as I might get 2 more Kepnix K1 as spares. Storms fu.ked up 2 Sky boxes A1 and the Kepnix ones I have are still going strong although the boxes could be identical the same.
Whats the difference between the Kepnix and the Kepnix K1?

Bad news.... IS18 is being replaced by NSS 9 on the 12th of next month for AFN feeds.

Based on the beam if you're in WA you probably wont be able to lock it any more :/
