I bought an ex business Dell Optiplex which has Windows 10 on it and no product key.
Anyone know how I can activate it ? I tried a crack which installed all sorts of crap and malware, so am starting again

OK, so I haven't tried this, however my puzzle solving mind, says, do a clean install of W7 if you have one, then upgrade to 10 using the disability option as I'm sure you need a magnifier to read the screen sometimes don't you.

Why do you need to activate Win10 ?
I have bought one second hand and two new devices with windows 10 preinstalled and never had to activate them.

Update: A deletion of features that work well and ain't broke but are deemed outdated in order to add things that are up to date and broken.
Compatibility: A word soon to be deleted from our dictionaries as it is outdated.

Probably the obvious, but I will ask, being an ex business Dell are you saying that the version installed won't activate, or the key has been blacklisted? Also if it's a recent Dell then the key maybe in the BIOS.Originally Posted by admin

Once W10 has been running on a system. All you need do is re-install it. (clean or otherwise) Activation is automatic. I've not yet had to enter a product key since the upgrade to 10 and I've clean installed all of them.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
settings/pcsettings/update and security/recovery/get started
will reinstall windows which should then activate.....
if it is a volume licence you may need to find a new key or use kmspico or microsoft toolkit......

What model Optiplex is it? The Dell machines come with a Windows CD that activates based on the machine's BIOS. You just need to get the original Windows CD for that model.
Once you have registered W10 legitimately, you can do a complete reinstall, because they took a map or some such of parts of your bios and when you go online it will activate in the background.
That's my understanding anyway.
Should there still be a problem, Tinys idea seems feasible.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
I took the easier instant route in the end.
