1/2 million Apple/Mac's infected!
A wake up call for Apple/Mac users, your mac has been taken over by YES, YES a virus!
The virus originated in 2005, but a scan detected it last night so apparently it is still a threat!
It's not too bad. The sad thing is that Apple controls the brains of about 90% of Mac owners.

The virus had infected 550,000 macs but later in that same day they said another 50,000 had been infected.......according to that famous Russian antivirus firm, Dr. Web.
That was in in 2012......Hmmm..... and I'm sure that antivirus firm probably has a nice antivirus suite you can buy from them to prevent you getting it.
My bullshit meter just went through the roof

mandc, you would think it had been eliminated/stopped or at least had its signature in most AV's to prevent infection.
It was that G71's (with the two blinking CAPSLOCK leds) laptop HD that my ESET AV found this trojan on last night. I trying to find any reason for it not to boot up and removed the hd and scanned it from another machine.

A virus will not stop a laptop going into post like your G71 is doing...nor will a failed HDD. A laptop showing some signs of life with a totally blank screen points more likely to failed ram or screen or video chip.
My reply above was not if that virus existed but if it affected macs the way that article alluded to.

About 25 years ago, I worked as an Apple technician. Pirating software by swapping floppy disks was rampant and as a result, about 90% of the Macs that came across my bench were infected with a virus called .
The virus was intended as a harmless prank: in the right conditions, a voice would come from the Mac occasionally and say “Don’t Panic!”. That’s all it was designed to do. Unfortunately, the virus contained a number of bugs that caused random crashes and general instability. I wonder how many users complained about their Macs crashng, when it was nVir doing the harm?
