Can you clarify.
Are you wanting to connect two devices to one HDMI input on a screen?
If that's what you want, an HDMI switch/selector will do the job.
I need to plug 2 HDMI devices into the same outlet ( a chromecast and an android box ) , can i do this with a double adapter type device or does it need to be powered ?
Most of the cheap ones i see on ebay mention using them to output to two monitors but i only want to use each device separately.

A splitter works the other way.... one device into two screens, etc.
You need a selector switch... passive device with one output and two inputs.
eg:
You can use a matrix selector/router, but that's a powered device.
Only last week I purchased a HDMI Matrix Switcher because the old Matrix one was only 1080p and since I have now a 2160p tv I need to change it for all my sat Boxes plug into it. They are cheap to buy.
Also the same as mtv suggested in Australia
