The issue we should be concerned about is the ease of which the man was able to access the firearm, and that he chose to use that firearm to murder another person.
Gun, knife, baseball bat.... Murderers will find a way...

Indeed they may. And if baseball bats and knives become items used repeated in mass killings then raise that as an issue at that point.

Guns, however, are a current known issue. Hence the discussion and the (seemingly) growing movements by many Americans pushing for some form of change.

They already ARE an issue in AU/GB etc.

You're gonna leave law abiding citizens defenseless, and STILL have not only a gun problem because we all know criminals won't give up their guns, but trade it for a knife problem.. or a bomb problem..

    You solve nothing.

    Really?

How many mass killings in AU/GB etc schools with a baseball bat or a knife? Nil.

What about the US? Im also guessing nil.

Guns are the problems here. Not baseball bats. Not knives. Deal with the gun problem that exists, not a problem (baseball bats and knives) that doesn’t.

And the argument about leaving citizens ‘defenceless’ is a non-argument. In AU/GB (and many other countries) there is no ‘right’ to a gun, and we don’t see the issues you think will occur. We don’t see mass gun related murder in schools either...

OK, so are we talking about 'mass killings' or murder/violence in total?

Because then you'd be comparing a plane crash which kills 200 people at once to car crashes which kill 30,000 but 1 or 2 at a time....

We're talking about gun violence, how many shootings per day in Australia and GB combined compared with the reported shootings in the "land of the (not so) free".
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

24 million people vs 330 million people.

Considering our population went from 180 million in 1960 to 330 million today... It's hard to compare gross numbers when you almost double the population.

The graph also shows a decline since the 90's NOT the 'omgs gunz!' increase that doesn't exist.

Keep in mind, the GCA of '68... Which, if you're going to say 'gun control works', explain the rise after gun control was implemented. LOL.

    I would like to know....

Why the left has to be dishonest. It's like facts don't support their position so they have to twist everything.

    1. 'Fully Semi-automatic' = BS made up word to confuse the public into thinking it's automatic and not semi.
    2. 'Child gun violence' = 'Studies' that use the definition of a 'child' as anyone under 25....
    3. 'Assault rifles kill more than anyone' = They're less than 1% of ALL firearm homicides.
    4. ' We're not trying to take your guns' = 'We should repeal the second amendment'
    5. '5,864 School shootings!' = If a gun is fired anywhere in or near a school zone or college campus, it's a 'school shooting'... Guy gets robbed near a college campus? 'School shooting'...A kid meets a drug dealer on H,S. track after school hours and gets shot? 'School shooting'.

Why can't you just be honest?

Surely your issues apply to both sides of the argument?

At the end of the day, regardless of ones views, stats and studies continue to show America is effected badly by gun crime. Recent stats show America’s are 10 times more likely to be killed by a gun than people in other developed countries (and that doesn’t include suicide by gun). Other studies put the homicide rate involving firearms at 25 times higher in the US than other developed countries.

The US has a problem with firearms, which is reflected time and time again in study after study over many decades - this cannot be disputed.

What can be disputed is the way Americans want to move forward to tackle the issues.

OK How about a bit of honesty from you. A semi-automatic with a bump stock is not a semi-automatic any more.
Weasel words like it's 'technically' still a semi-automatic is the same BS you are decrying.

It still fires with one pull of the trigger.

Bumpfiring is done without a stock, the stock is just a 'cool' thing...

Yes 'bump firing' can be accomplished without the need of a special stock so banning the sale of the bumpstocks would be a useless gesture.
You're making an excellent case for banning civilian ownership of all self loading rifles though but I'm not sure that was your intent in seeking an Oz opinion on the issue. After that handguns would have to come under the spotlight naturally.

"London’s murder rate has in contrast risen by 38 percent since 2014 when the city had 94 killings. There were 119 murders in 2015, 109 in 2016 and 134 in 2017."

How is this possible when no GUNS were involved? Maybe the problem isn't JUST guns . . . ?

Logic would be to ban handguns, since they're the vast majority of firearm murders. But they can't do that, so they go for the low hanging fruit... Something they can sensationalize....Just like they did with the 'saturday night special' attempted bans in the late 80's early 90's..

But again, CDC estimates 300,000 defensive firearm uses a year, at the extreme low end...

    What's 12k vs 300k?

And again, a lot of these murders have a net gain, ie drug dealers shooting each other... It's a win:win...

It's far to late to ban guns In the US. There are too many guns to control.
