Short answer is yes, though probably not to quite the same extent as the US. Our education system certainly encourages this sort of nonsense.

One difference is that gun ownership is not a mainstream issue here. It is highly restricted, but these restrictions are widely accepted. One must hold a firearms licence, have a genuine reason for owning a gun (not self defence) and not be a "prohibited person". All guns must be registered. There are also strict rules about how and where guns are stored.

Wasn't so much pushing/advocating the Gun/No Gun issue, it was more like, "Snorting condoms and eating Tide pods" . . . REALLY?

Kids doing dumb & risky stuff is universal, mostly the male gender on dares or trying to impress females by outdoing the other guys.
It's a phenomenon that fades in the mid twenties for most.

I think risky behaviour is worse now than when I was young due to the likes of those fools in Jackass etc.

Looking back to what I remember of the 50's was that money was tight, things were dear, car ownership was in the minority, most were employed and there were more jobs available than now.
You could leave your house unlocked most times simply because what you had wasnt worth stealing but it did happen.

I still feel some Video Games where there is no penalty for losing, can give a false sense as well as those where high levels of violence occur.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Good point Gordon. I cringe every time I hear about sports games for young kids where they don't keep score. Absolutely ####ing ridiculous. The kids keep score anyway and have a pretty good idea of who the star players and the better team are. I had the pleasure of attending a couple of Primary School assemblies last year when visiting families, which consisted mostly of Welcome to Country type bullshit, the kids singing the National Anthem in some obscure Aboriginal language and an endless series of public awards for just about everything. These children must get an award every four or five weeks on average and such awards mean nothing to them.

No wonder we now have so many young adults of the snowflake variety who whinge and take offence at everything and are ill-prepared for the slightest setback.

    End of rant.

I do wonder though whether the numbers of snowflakes are the same as the years gone by, the difference being that nowadays they have a voice through social media and the Internet, so more are now being heard.

We have well and truly entered the age of “entitlement”.

I'd hazard a guess it'd be about the same as in the "olden days" and the older ones still whinge on social media about perceived outrages, just much more vehemently...

I also wonder. Human nature itself doesn't change. I suspect that we have more these days because of current social conditions, being the way they are coddling them, keeping them from recognising or at least coming to grips with their limitations and encouraging them to have unrealistic expectations.

But I don't know. Perhaps we have a combination of significant factors at play here.
