Coffee machine stiff

Hey all,
This time delving into my coffee espresso machine. Sunbeam EM4800c
I picked it up from a garage sale prob 12 months ago, in as new condition and it works great but has one problem I feel I should look at.

The knob/dial (whatever it's called), on the front to operate cup fill or steam nozzle is quite stiff to turn.
It's been like it ever since I got it.
Does anyone know what's behind that knob ?
Obviously it's some sort of valve but just wanta know what I'm getting in to. I assume clean and lube something.

I just googled "sunbeam em4800c service manual" first hit got lucky

Amazing...I just tried that and it came up, didn't yesterday though.
Might have to check the search settings, then again yesterday the internet was acting a little funny at times.
