    Question Strong Srt 4653x

Are these units capable of running a gamma/sellers card?
If yes, do they have the heat issues like the humax and so on?
    Are these a reliable unit?

Thinking about getting 1 of these for my old man.

    Cheers

    Yes
    Yes.

another option is the 4658x with a cam. The card runs quite warm but not hot like in the internal slot.

sorry,, my bad ,,i see what your saying,in the 4658x it runs cooler in a cam,,ive actually added internally an 80mm 12volt fan and connected it to the 5v rail,,which ,touch wood, runs dead quiet and cool to warmish.

i will post photos soon of how its done,,,
also,,noticed it seems to make a difference with the firmware.
138p seems to be the most reliable so far,,,damb things missing PACMAN though ;-)

I desided not to get 1 for my old man as the CMC isn`t fta anymore.
Plus he wants to see my setup first once its up and running.

Min, ive got a 4658x and when we were running the old Aus gamma files the card ran a little too hot.
Also some gamma cards were too thin and required some tape on the front to register the micro switch on the built in card slot.
    Otherwise great boxes.
Having said that i regret not buying a dream.
    Similar price.

    Yeah CMC long gone mate.

    CMC=croation music channel

If you remember the days when everyone was updateing the gam files, most strongs were running strong without needing updating.
It was only in the last week before the public file went down that we were in the same boat as everyone else.
Mines running a selectv card with no problems.
The gamma card did run a little hot.
The selectv card does not run hot.
It does not pixalate, if it did, id be checking signal strength.
Just picked up a second hand 90cm dish, uni lnb and motek, the strong works the motek with no problems.
    A great box.
Only critisism is that gammas ran a little hot and the gam card needed a little tape to thicken it up a little, select card did not need tape.

    Great feed back thanks.
I have been using Topfield 3000 boxes for years they have a separate cams and although they too get hot with a gamma it's no big deal, so I will through one of my own cams in the slot and use the embedded cam for Aurora. Great to hear it's good with a motech. Don't know if I will ever use one my self with the system I now have but you never know it is after all MORE HARDWARE

I picked up my first Strong 4658X today and I was wondering, this firmware Strong has on thier site for Australia does it have to be loaded to get my new box going and can I use a thumb drive or USB cable as it has a USB port at the front?

I am pretty sure you have to use a null modem cable from pc to box.

All boxes come with a firmware preloaded, you can check your version in the menu.
Usb port is the way to go.
May be best to set it up, get it going and feel comfortable with it before playing with diffrent firmwares.
