    Default Coolant Voltage

    Wow, I never knew anything about this.
    Nor expected it.

    Just repaired the lads radiator in his D40 Navara.
    Radiator was 3 months old.
    Hole in the core.
    Took it out for what we thought would be warranty.
    Radiator Shop took one look and said Electrolosis.
    Showed us in his books, exact same diagnosis we had.

    Anyone ever dealt with this?
    His vehicle didn't leak coolant under pressure, but 3 days after sitting in driveway, it would leak 1 litre on the ground.

    I've Googled... 0.3volts seems to be the acceptable voltage limit for coolant.

    I asked our Radiator shop, he says 0.05v and under... Nothing higher.

    D40 measures 100mV or 0.100volts in coolant of Radiator and 0.03volts in over flow bottle.

    Can anyone here add some advise on the subject?

    Water and all its derivatives are a proverbial pain when things like this happen.
    My knowledge of Science is bugger all so I was surprised one time to read that flowing water of any consistency generates power/current? This is one of a thousand reasons rust occurs in pipes and gutters, boats and every other damned thing.
    Several years ago at a garage I saw a then fairly new SUV up on a hoist and around the bottom of the radiator, it was displaying all the signs of heavy corrosion despite the liquid dripping was coloured which I took to be anti freeze and not plain water.
    The mechanic said it wasnt the first he had seen and claimed the radiator had been made in Spain and the copper used for the tanks or core were of poor quality hence the corrosion.
    True or false I have no idea so on reflection all these years later, it could have been some kind of electrolytic action............
    The vehicle was one of the Major brands less than 3 years old at the time that was built with components made all over the world and re-assembled 'somewhere' before being sold.
    I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

    Yes...
    This radiator is alloy cored with plastic tanks and fittings.
    It is then rubber mounted.
    If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

    No accident damage mate, although, the D40 is on 35's and the lad drives it like its a Stadium Truck!

    Yes, we had a Chassis Earth that was literally loose under the bolt, i mean 5mm loose!!!
    But the earth strap from engine block to battery neutral was ok.

    Outside that, we couldn't find much.

    The radiator core also had some areas of colour change (black) on the outside, apparently displaying another leal about to happen.
