Default N16 Pulsar issue with auto trans.

My wifes pulsar was sluggish and i suspected it was because we hadnt serviced the auto, so i got a filter kit and replaced the fluid.
Was smoother but not much better than before, then i noticed the acc. cable was quite slack so adjusted it and that made a little difference.
Engine revs freely but at take off it takes about 3k rpm to get it moving, no kick down cable that i could find and it seems like its not starting from first gear.
May need to borrow a code reader and see if it shows any error codes to help pin point the problem.

have you found anything ? a quick google search shows planetary failure to be a common issue on many Nissan models

Did some more testing on the weekend and its not the trans, engine revs to 4k if you press on the pedal slowly but a quick jab and it stumbles then revs up slowly.
Coil packs test ok so i'm leaning towards a fuel delivery issue possibly filter or fuel pump, ideally i need a code reader to see if there are any failures.

a code reader wont pick up a fuel pressure issue , you need to measure rail pressure with a mechanical fuel pressure guage. most EFI cars are around 30psi.

True but it would show if any sensors are out of spec or faulty.

Replaced the filter and instantly after starting it i could tell it was the issue, test drive confirmed back to normal operation.
