Default Safe to pull phone cable from Hills Reliance R8?

I have a Hills Reliance R8 hooked up to a VoiceNav panel. I am reasonably certain that there is no active back-to-base monitoring for this alarm (previous owner). The system is hooked to the phone line, but I would like to try disconnecting it due to excessive noise on my ADSL connection. I have the manual for the standard alarm system panel which describes changing communications options, however there is no master panel installed in the alarm box (see photo). Is it safe to just pull the phone cable from the alarm, or will this cause it to go off? Does anyone know how to safely disable communications from the VoiceNav panel? Thanks!

    Depends how it is programmed.
    Unplug it and see.
It alarms activates or code pad starts beeping then enter code to stop. And you will need to connect phone line back in.
Make sure the contacts inside close together, otherwise you may have no line at all, at the rest of the phone points.

Yep, that is what happened when I removed it. Worked again when I plugged it back in. Can you please elaborate on which contacts to close after removing the line? The connection was just a regular RJ-11 jack.

Ordinary RJ sockets do not have switching contacts.

Security alarms, medical alarms etc, should always use a Mode 3 socket, so that the alarm has priority on the line.

If the alarm plug is removed from the socket, the switching contacts close so that the line is no longer disconnected from other cabling and devices (eg: other sockets in the premises)

An ordinary RJ socket (as you have) can be configured as Mode 3, but it doesn't have switching capabilities, so it is permanently open circuit if the device is unplugged.

For a single line, wiring is typically Blue/White pair into the alarm and red/black out of the alarm.

There are various wire colours which may be used, depending on the cable types installed, but the pair-switching principle is the same.

If you want to line to operate again, you need to reconfigure the existing socket so the wires are configured as an ordinary parallel connection.

If you want the ability to connect/disconnect the alarm by removing the line plug, you should replace the standard socket with a Mode 3 type.

Given your issue is noise on your ADSL connection.... have you installed a central ADSL filter splitter?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have not installed a central filter. The wiring generally is pretty much a mess and I am just trying to eliminate the easy possibilities. I don't want to invest a lot in fixing my phone cabling since NBN in my area will require switching to HFC when its ready.
