is anyone using a dedicated cell data device with their unit, what do you use/how it's hooked up?

I'm currently WiFi tethering to mobile, that works fine, but, have a spare SIM with heaps of data that gathering dust, so thought I'd have it full time in the car.

tried a Telstra branded (Huawei?) USB dongle, but I think I need to root Eonon to be able to use plugged in dongle ?

as for my other issue, Eonon did send me updated builds, twice, both didn't resolve my issue, oh well

I've been thinking the same thing.
I have a Huawei USB Dongle that allows USB tethering or 10 WiFi Clients
So could easily do it the WiFi way.... I hadn't thought to do a USB tether to the Eonon unit.

    This might help

hmm, perhaps there was some issue with my Telstra 3G USB dongle, or I misconfigured something, just tried Netgear Aircard 785S into USB on Eonon, it just worked, and I could also open Netgear's control panel from Eonon
yes, my data just jumped from 1.5 to 8GB - but, I wasn't able to set auto WiFi hotspot when in the car - unless I root the mobile - so this might avoid the need to enable hotspot.

I have decided to take the plunge since Eonon are having a sale but wanted to hear if anyone has had any issues with fitment, i need to get a fascia/loom kit and noticed that the suppliers state that there may be some issues with non branded/chinese units.
Looking at the site i don't see if they come with a mounting cage at all ?

see if they have a model specific one for you.

my car has a weird fascia and needed the special
connector for the stereo but eonon had a model which was
just for my car so it was an all in one.

They dont and the fitting kit is almost as much as the stereo.

Looking at the GA2175 and an Aerpro kit, comes to about $400 but integrates into the canbus and steering wheel controls.

Received the unit on Monday and fitted it yesterday in a 40c car, got everything done bar routing the reversing camera as i will need an extension to the 6m supplied cable. Also trying to work out where to pickup power from in my tailgate for the camera, and its not clear if i need to wire into the the reverse light since i'm using a canbus aerpro harness.
Pretty happy with the unit although i expected the wifi to be better as i cant pickup a signal when i'm in the driveway less than 10m away.

good to see its all going well for you, i like the units and are decent quality
in my experience with them over the last 3-4 yrs.

with the wifi i found the strength of the signal comes down to where you have run the cable
for it , mine works well at 15+ meters and connects to the house setup as i drive in the drive
    every time.

What size SD card can fit in yours?
That is officially supported i mean

Install looks great, i loved mine too, until it Factory Reset one night and i lost every app, bit of data, way points, etc

One thing that did always piss me off with mine, was every now and then, when cranking voltage dropped too low or for what ever reason, i'd lose all my FM preset stations
I never bothered to find a fix

Hope that doesn't happen with yours

I put the wifi antenna in the top of that opening in the top of the dash with the GPS antenna stuck to the left, wifi wont connected to my router even though its less than 10m from my car but i think they may be our overloaded system.
GPS is fast and accurate so far and really impressed with the sound, supports up to 64g SD card. I havent put an SD card in yet as i was wondering if it will just read it as storage or does it need to have apps on it since it says GPS card near the slot.
Thinking about putting an SSD HDD into a spare case and plugging it in to the rear USB port.

Front SD Slot is just an SD slot, it will handle anything, just store files there, GPS or APPS or Music, what ever

I run all my GPS maps on the SD card, plus as many Apps as i could move across to SD, to keep the Machine ROM free (as it fills fast)

Both 666 and myself have played with a HDD in the external USB ports, they work fine
I think that is posted here somewhere

I have only loaded Igo nextgen so far but will be adding an OBD app for my bluetooth diagnostic tool and maybe Ozi Explorer.

    Nice one loanrangiel

I had iGO, Waze, OsmAnd, and Google Maps, plus the OBD2 and Torque App
    They all worked fine....
I must admit, i rather run my Navigation on my phone mounted to the windshield near my my right hand
And then leave the Eonon unit free for Entertainment or running Off Road maps in conjunction with additional maps on the phone.

How is your FM preset memory? Any issues with losing station memories? How is Fringe FM reception?

If you using your unit while the vehicle is on Accessories, how does it react when starting the vehicle?

i have the torq installed on mine with the bluetooth odb11 unit connected
and works well.I used it when i had a engine light come on telling me my
02 sensor was fooked. When doing long trips i run the music player and have the
torq running real time data with the speed warning etc

No issues with the tuner at all, even restarting there is barely a pause before it resumes play from either tuner or stored mp3's, i was surprised to be able to play music and have IGO running with the IGO voice over telling me i'm over the speed limit
I'm considering putting an external screen in the dash opening above which may be easier to see while driving, the OBD app i use is from GAP diagnostics which is Landrover specific.
I can read and clear faults as well as change vehicle parameters like suspension height and dash display and even use it to load altered ECU maps.

Ok, i think a lot of hesitations i was having were streaming apps like Free View, because the internet connection (WiFi) is temporarily disrupted
