    Default New Toyota Lo Lux

Nothing like a little competition to bring the best out of a car maker, once upon a time Toyota used to say take it or leave it, but are now bargaining, but onto the new models
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"

They are having lots of problems with the dpf, so are probably keen to sell before word gets out.....

Bad design, injector is in wrong spot and prone to blocking by carbon deposits....

May also be due to the tax changes coming in that effect utes. As a result there will likely be an increase in purchases by individuals (instead of businesses), so may be making these models more appealing to that market.

the new Luxes do look the goods , and its a simple exercise to tack on a few plastic bits which you can get on ebay from Thailand anyway . There have been no mechanical changes to the platform to my knowledge .
I agree about the DPF failures , its a common problem for cars in city areas although some regional area 2.8s have been affected too. Soe cars have had multiple DPF failures. They do a regen by slightly increasing the injectors open time which increases heat inside the DPF chamber , and the 5th injector is there to assist the other 4 do the job.

My 2.8 has been ok so far but i only have 20,000 on the clock. If the DPF ever fails outside warranty i'll be boring a hole through it and remapping the ECU.

    Very informative site...thanks, OB.

I've got a 2017 Hiace campervan with the 3L diesel.

After reading that DPF article I think I'll be lying in bed staring at the ceiling all night tonight

Fortunately it almost never does any urban mileage.........out in the wide open all the time, and rarely much below 80-100.

    But....forewarned is forearmed.

The entire exhaust system including dpf and scr (ad blue) from my ram is sitting on a pallet in the shed.
With an ecu remap with EGR delete and new 5" exhaust I got an instant 20% improvement in economy.
Plus the extra 120hp is handy....
