check the ram has not unseated in transit also the video card
I sent a computer to my son with a new video card and ram for him to play games but my ex cannot work out how to get it running. Is there anyone in the Ferryden Park area or not far away, that could fix it for him?I think it would only take 30 minutes to do it? Please reply with a mobile number here so I can pass it on to them and they can get in touch.Dont mind paying a reasonable price for setting up...Cheers

Edit: Please PM poster if phone number is required.
I know I'm not supposed to comment in here but mate do you think it's a good idea to put her phone number here, or was that your intent?
Cheers

I'm with Al on that score. Publishing a number on open forum could leave her open to all sorts of unsolicited problems. FWIW I could possibly have a look next time I'm in town. I live out bush so only go to the big smoke for doctors and the like. If no one sticks their hand up I'm happy to go next time I'm in town.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Made contact with some guy there. Having a look at it tomorrow morning.
Cheers.
When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. I thought he went everywhere with me. I could talk to him and he could hear me, and he could grant me wishes and stuff too. But then I grew up, and stopped going to church.
Thanks for the help, and to be honest,I thought its no different than Gumtree?Or is the world turning to shit?
Turning to shit unfortunately, but people like Mods offer eternal hope

There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"

OK, update. Went around there this morning. I should point out I am pretty good at trouble shooting computers, but know SFA about high end video cards ( I just use onboard video )
Anyway, after a bit of fiddling around I got the computer to work (there was an odd stick of ram that may have an issue). However when putting the big video card back in it asked for us to connect the pci-e cable to the card. We didn't have any such cable.
I thought you only needed a cable to connect 2 pci=e cards, but I think this was wanting a power cable from the look of the plug. Like i said, no experience with video cards so it was a bit of guesswork.
I put the computer back into a working state, and advised the people to take the card to msy and let them tell them what cable they need.
Sorry I couldn't have been more help.
Cheers.

Update update, it turns out that newer psu's have a 6+2 power cable that plugs into the video card. This computer didn't have the right psu.

Ok thanks for your help,I think you can get an adapter plug that goes in a spare power outlet on the PSU.Is that correct if anyone can help?
Make sure the PSU is not stressed by the Video cards requirements, i.e. check the PSU’s power rating.
Cheers

The psu was a fairly low end one, but it was 600w.

Good on ya Mods
On Gumtree, you have to click a link to get the phone number. Search engines don't have access to it.
If you post a number here on a public web page, search engines will pick it up and many companies run software to "harvest" phone numbers and email addresses to sell to marketing companies.
Depends on how much you still like her
