Default Natural Gas and Diesel engines.

My query stems from a Youtube Video of a Diesel Locomotive with a tanker attached and the commentary said it was 'Natural gas'!!.
Anybody who seen the TV Program Railroad Australia would have seen the freight Trains traveling from Pt Perie/Adelaide to Perth had a tanker or 2 immediately behind the Locomotives and in one episode, the transfer pump kept breaking down.

I know you can run a petrol engine on LPG and most likely NG too but can you run a Diesel engine on either or both?
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Some of the older SA public bus fleet ran on Compressed Natural Gas, however there were issues and I understand that the newer vehicles are diesel.
As an aside, the bus break down crew used to carry small tanks of gas in case the busses ran out.

yes the older style pre common rail diesels can run assisted by LPG . trouble is with all that extra power comes extra heat , which makes them crack heads.

Found people are running diesels on all sorts of fuel mixtures, petrol, kerosene, used veg oil, biodiesel, lpg, ng, etc, & saying runs quieter & smoother.

An article I was reading just the other day of a diesel/petrol mix engine (although being American, they call petrol gas... short for gasolene)

Was told by a auto gas system fitter that 25+ years ago a trucking company in aus tried a gas add on there prime movers but it was short lived as it was a simple pressure regulator drivers would up the gas content and then with drive line failures the systems where removed. If used correctly they would get better over all fuel economy from the increased overall power

Plenty of LPG kits for diesels. But it doesn't work that same is its Petrol counterparts
