Hi there
I had an ex multi choice receiver in use on Aurora for many years.
It booted exactly as you mention in your post. Although I can't confirm 3 or 4 digits.. I have a feeling it was only 3 though.
Was a good reliable box.
Hi all, there's something I wanted to ask you guys in Oz who used to use the Optus Aurora system years ago about one of the UEC boxes, the DSD 700.
I would like to know if anyone can remember if it had a 3-digit or 4-digit LED display in front, and if it was green?
Also, can anyone remember what its startup sequence used to look like?
What I mean is something like this:
. (yellow dot) with "dL" flashing.
. (yellow dot) with 1 and a "-" that runs in circles to the right of it
a set of 4 zeros (0000) followed by a "2==2" and "3==3"
a "SCAn" on the display with the blue/purple scanning screen on the TV.
I would like to know because if it had only a 3-digit display then of course it could not display some of the stuff above. If someone has one could they maybe just switch it on one day quickly (without connecting LNB, etc.) just to see what the sequence looks like (if it's like the one above)?
I am curious to see if it's the same as our South African boxes of the time.
I have a MultiChoice badged UEC DSD 660 (looks identical to the Aurora box) that I turned on the other day to test a LNB and I noticed this startup sequence on mine.

Nice, yeah, they did work well in their day (for the tech at the time).
Did it have this shape (not the same badges of course)?
Yeah, if it says "SCAn" when it starts up, then it has the 4 digits, but the 3 digit one used to say "Inf" when it's scanning.
Also when it looses signal it used to have a red dot (for an error) with either flashing "---" (3 dig.) or flashing "----" (4 dig.).
Does anyone remember this beauty?
Originally called a "Panasat" in our part of the world.
She had the three-digit display.
