Default Annoying phone calls, new breed of...

Three times a week I'm getting an asian robbo-call that lasts a few sentences and hangs up. It's always an 02 number. Mum is copping them too, on her home phone while mine are always on mobile. Obviously targeting asian immigrants in Oz but it's full on at the moment.

The only Robo calls I have had are usually silent when answered and after some 10 seconds says 'Goodbye' and disconnects.

These telemarketers bring out pure evil in me. there are few things I consider more annoying and an invasion of my privacy and immoral imposition .
They always ring when I am up the back and expecting a call and have to drop what I'm doing and run for the phone. I don't keep a phne with me because the always pocket Dial or fall out my pocket into some goop which renders them useless. If I am expecting a call I'll take a phone out with me and you can guarantee I'll be at the other end of the yard when it rings just as I walked up to turn a hose or something off and they will get me in that particular 60 Sec.

I don't ignore calls because I have had my fair share of family tragetys and I also have an 80 yo father who can call at any time or people may call me about him if something is not right. From past experience, I get a knot in my stomach every time the phone rings now.

Just the hide of them to annoy you and intrude on whatever you are doing really grates me. I signed up for that " Do not Call " List some years ago, what a farce that was. made no difference at all.
I also think it's wrong that when I moved in here 8 months ago, Telstra wanted MORE money NOT to list my Number. Had an argument with them about that so to get me, they listed it against my will.
I asked How can you charge me to do nothing every Month? Clearly they sell their lists to these annoying scum because we are already getting these calls and the ONLY people that have the land line number that was a brand new never before listed one is Family. Any other time we give out a mobile number. Strangely, I have yet to ever have a teleparasite call me on that. When the home phone rings at add times when family don't usualy call, it often scares the ship out of me if I am not expecting it.

I have ZERO sympathy for these parasites and hold nothing back when I get one annoying me.
At best I will lay my tongue to every profanity I can think of and do my best to insult and downright hurt them emotionally.
    At worst.... look out!

I have a shortcut to a sound file on my computer. It's a mixed soundtrack from a porn movie with " enthusiastic" participants and me in the background pretending to be talking to someone about another telemarketer on the line and insulting and ridiculing them every way I could think of. When I get a call from one of these mongerels I find the file, get it playing then ask them to hold while I turn the kettle off or let the dog out. Put the phone near the speaker ( and I have worked out the right volume ) and let it play.
Amazing how long some of them will hold on. I used to just put the phone on the desk and carry on but they hang up pretty quick even if you yell out and say you'll be there is a second. The sound track they tend to hang on for. Perverts!

There is another one where I am telling them I can't hear them but my voice is very low making it hard for them to hear me and listening closely and maybe turning up their volume if they can do that. Then there is the sound of a machine gun that's REALLY loud followed with some more profanities telling them they are the lowlifes of the earth.

I had one the other day calling claiming to be from microsoft and my computer had a Virus and they needed me to fix it. Managed to string this guy along for 10 Min before I got bored and then insulted his parentage and everything else I could think of. I love it when they fire up and start making death threats. Means you really up set them. Hopefully it gets to them enough to think about a new line of more respectable work.
Like I said, zero sympathy for these people especially the ones that are running scams rather than just selling something.

Another one I had recently was supposedly from telstra. I noticed when I picked up the phone it said " Overseas number". I only answered it because my nice is overseas atm and I knew the outlaws were away in the country at that time and may not be able to get reception. These telemongerals get me every time like this.
Guy went on about being from telstra and something or another and I asked what his location was he was calling from? He said telstra and I said no, what suburb is your arse sitting in right now?
    Sydney.
No you little piece of excrement, you are lying already. Suffice to say he hung up on me before I was near done insulting him. How rude!

The telcos claim they can't stop overseas calls but I'm more than certain they are complicit in them selling lists and other data.

    Hmmm..lets see.
If I were Telstra I would open up all disconnected numbers and automatically route them to an answering message saying "You have called 5555-5555 please leave a message."
and charge for the connected call. I'd be the bad guy, but it would cost the scammers millions of dollars in NU calls that they don't know aren't real and that their robots can't tell the difference.

Telstra, Optarse, Vodafone, or any other mob do not need to sell your number, All the scammers do is set up an auto dialler, and everytime they get an "answer" they flag it as a live one. Nothing the Australian, or any other, government can do. They can block calls from KNOWN scam artists, but blocking an entire country can, and does, affect ALL legitimate calls. It boils down to the fact that You have no idea it's a SCAM until you answer the call, NOR does anyone else, unless, of course, you are happy to let BIG BROTHER listen in to EVERY phone call so that BIG BROTHER can determine if the call is genuine, or not. YES, if the scammer is based in Australia, there are legal remedies, once outside our jurisdiction, however.......

If I have the time, I will waste as much of their time as I can. I have also asked them to hang on and then "forget" to come back to them.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

You”re right, but they tend to not do this. I guess it’s too slow and inefficient. I paid the extra $3/month for a silent number last time I moved house and it has been one of the best things I’ve ever done. It does not eliminate the calls, since some must be dialling every number, but it cuts them down dramatically. I also have a cordless phone system that lets me block any number known to be a source of nuisance calls - enter the number once and all three handsets connected to the same base have it barred.

Like the poster above, I find it absurd that I had to pay to NOT occupy space in the printed phone directory. Thankfully, it’s now free - at least with some landline / NBN providers.

Since the public telephone network is basically a large computer system these days, I can see no reason that the telcos cannot easily and quickly identify users who are placing a high number of outgoing calls to different numbers that are listed on the “Do Not Call” register and block them at the source. The only logical reason for them failing to do this is that they want the revenue from the calls placed by the scammers.

In some ways, it’s a shame that VoIP has made it so easy to route calls outside the regular phone network. If you could just say “block all calls originating outside Australia”, that would cut out most of them.

    . Then I can be a kid

Yeah....done that. Done that to more than one real call over the years too. If I answer a number that I don't recognise I always use a slightly higher pitched voice. Then I can be a kid and piss them off that way.

I havent had any annoying calls on the Mobiles and I didnt know you could block calls which I will learn 'How To'.
You cant 'blanket ban' numbers because you never know when you may get a call from someone or service that does need to contact you.
As far as I know, the 'Landline' cant tell the difference between my Daughters unlisted number and a Telemarketer or other.

That's the point of having all the unused numbers connect. Auto dialers become a very expensive waste of time.
This also slows down scam callers who are cold dialing. Every failure is another 20c lost.

When I had a landline, I never used it. It was an unlisted number and on the DNC register so anybody that did call, got special attention.
I plugged the phone in in the hope fvcktards would call.

What would be a shitload of fun is to funnel the telescammers into a voice assistant AI. Provided the AI had no real access to anything secure, it would be a shitload of fun to listen to.
