    Default which wire

    hey guys
    phills diy electronics here

on this battery from a toshiba
which wire can i test with a multi to see if its got charge, i tried reds & blacks, just checking

seems dead, the power jack has 19v of goodness going through it, the lappy wont turn on at all, normally even with a dead battery they do, but maybe its different with these batteries ?

PHil, I dont understand how those with the 3 or so terminals work.
If I read and understood one 3 contact type properly, it also sensed Temperature when charging and regulated the input accordingly.
Maybe to use less material to make them smaller and lighter, they cut back on the case material which would have absorb some heat during a charge.
If you were to open that battery up, its possible each cell has its own line in and what ever charges it and the devise it powers, has the necessary charging circuitry to connect it all up.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

If the reds and the blacks don't have any voltage on them then the battery has deep discharged and the protection circuit has cut everything off. If the cell voltage has dropped below 2.something volts, then the protection circuit will not activate even when you connect the charger and measure the 19V.
Only way is to crack open the battery and apply carefully 3-4V (limited at 1A or less) cell for cell. Best with a lab power supply where you can adjust voltage and current. 1 minute per cell should do.
This should bring the battery back to life so it can be charged with the lappy's charger again, but you might have a ticking time bomb so I would only do this for testing and never fully charge it.

    Toshiba laptop ?
Have you tried leaving the charger on it for an extended period ? like all day ?
Sometimes they will eventually kick in and start charging.

    actually fixed it
read maybe the ram could cause it so reseated that, found some reset button on the board
    hit that, sparked it up
