    Default Actuator dead

My old actuator has completely seized, was setting up my old dish today wont move an inch.

What's a good long lasting one these days?
Is it worth going heavy duty again if I'm just moving a 1.8m solid or 2.3m mesh?

    So many choices!

If you can rotate the clevis end by hand and it rotates freely and the arm retract or expend, then the actuator has not seized.
Check the positioner is outputting 30 to 36 Volt when activated.. if no output the positioner is faulty.
Could be a faulty reed switch at the motor. Very common. if you connected sensor cable to the DC output the reed switch will be fried.
Could be faulty cabling. no feedback from the reed sensor.

In addition to the comments posted above, I have found that water ingress often causes actuator bearings to fail/seize.

Dismantle the actuator and check the bearings. If necessary, replace and lubricate them (bearings obtainable from a bearing supplier - measure the bearings first).

In the past, I have repaired many actuators successfully for customers and have always used a marine grade grease for lubrication.

Parts for larger Venture actuators are available from Venture in the US (Yes, I know that a brand was not stated).

This one is close to 10 years old, I just want to replace it to be honest. And I spent a while on it, things dead and pretty rusted.

So just wondering what a good one is these days

Whats the point of going 36 over 24? support a bigger dish?

If the Sat Dish mounnt can accept it, 36 inch gives you the ability to do a full arc and not restrict movement on the edge points, the movement of the dish is not linear across the arc especially at the end points and you also can suffer from Dish droop as you go past centre of gravity thus shearing the internal safety pin.

A larger actuator gives you better control and you don’t have to mount it at its limit on the arm to get full arc unlike some 24inch versions.

My worm driven actuators lasted me no longer then 2 years. The close location of a sprinkler head did not help, most actuators have a drain hole at the bottom of the motor housing, but many people do not realize it.

I was lucky to score a large H to H mount a few years back that easily moved my 2,7mt solid. It stops for nothing. I accidentally left a small ladder under the dish as I moved it, it just kept pushing it into the ground until the current sensor kicked in on the positioner.

Haha that's awesome I'll try get a 36" then, as far as I can see nobody is selling anything more than a 24" though.

H to h for large stuff... I've never seen only up to 120cm, I want to get one on my micro bud setup

Also wouldnt a 36 inch actuator be a 'heavier duty' than a 24 inch due to the fact of moving both a bigger dish and traveling a wider arc?
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Yes I need 36 inch from Measat3 91.5 to NSS9 177 W Now that a big Arc. At the same time some have made the pivot point closer to the center of the dish (NOT RECOMMENDED) to give them a more ARC.

Not really as some heavy duty are only 12 inch. It all about wind loading and the size and weight of the dish.

36 seems exceedingly hard to find, might have to settle for a 26.

Mr 672A, although badly worded, that was the point I was trying to make.
A 36 inch would be stronger and more robustly constructed to handle a larger dish which now equals heavier and has a larger surface area to control than what a 26 inch actuator is designed to handle.

PTV's site hasn't been updated in like 10 years, I don't think melbsat has them either. I'll see how I go was hoping I could find it on amazon or ebay and get it shipped.

There used to be a satellite supply shop near May's Hill just west of Parramatta, cant remember their name but what about those companies who provide ethnic TV channels?
Maybe one of them might have a list of both suppliers and installers of satellite equipment.

Another shop was around the Hornsby/Asquith area north of Sydney. maybe in the Yellow pages?

Anybody who advertises VAST like a Camping/Caravan sales place?

Try Sciteq Perth they still sell 3.7 metre dishes so they may still stock 36 inch actuators . They don't have them on there web page but not everything they have is
