    Default WiFi router advice

    Hi All

I have a friend that’s looking for a WiFi router that is easy to add and remove devices from a black list.

She has kids that she needs to block there individual devices like bed time, spending too much time online, punishment and that sort of thing with the ability to name the MAC address to something easy like the device name?

Also is it possible to block sites or allow sites by device in the router.

    Cheers
    SS Dave

I've never used it but my ASUS router with Merlin firmware has a Parental Controls system under "AI Protection" which gives fairly fine control over clients both by times and apps. I'm not sure but I think this section exists in the stock ASUS firmware as well. Once added to parental controls a device is blocked by default. Then times need to be added when access is allowed. Can also choose to block by device adult content, instant messaging and communication, P2P and file transfer and Streaming and Entertainment. There is also a general global filter for blocking by URL, by Keyword or blocking particular services by port. Merlin firmware is available for a number of different Asus routers.
